Former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday responded to a subpoena from House Republicans and he says hes willing to testify as long as its in public.

Additionally, Comeys attorney on Thursday issued a statement saying that the former FBI director would fight the subpoena in court unless House Republicans agreed to let the hearing take place in public.
Mr. Comey embraces and welcomes a hearing open to the public, but the subpoena issued yesterday represents an abuse of process, said attorney David Kelley. Accordingly, Mr. Comey will resist in Court this abuse of process.

Even though House Republicans will soon lose their power to subpoena witnesses, they have apparently been sending out last-minute subpoenas to key former law enforcement officials in an effort to try to prove the entire Mueller probe is a rigged deep state conspiracy against President Donald Trump.

(4,341 posts)It is hard to understand what the "loyalty" by the republicans to the worst president this country will ever have comes from, and the only answer that I can come with is that trump has done a mob job on them, he has implicated them with who knows what, I assume its money, and now they have to fight for their freedom.
The man-child is destroying their party, their reputation, because now the whole world sees them as puppets, as traitors, as people with no values or principles, so I can't see any other reason but the fact they are implicated in the entire process of cheating, putting illegal money into their campaigns, and who knows what else.
I hope that it all comes out and they get what they deserve. One can tolerate stupidity, ignorance, but never treason.

(3,205 posts)The Mueller investigation of the Russian meddling in the 2016 election is likely to expose the involvement of many of the party leaders, and some of it's largest donors. The republicans sold their soul to the devil in 2016 to gain absolute power. Now they're faced with the very real prospect of Adam Schiff raining subpoenas down on them like God smiting Sodom and Gomorrah.
They're scared and doing everything they can at the last minute to muddy the waters.

(26,281 posts)and I think he did that hail mary pass to help Trump thinking Trump would be grateful to him which was his mistake as Trump has a history of screwing over people he owes anything to.

(3,205 posts)...I think the "acting AG" will fire Mueller at the end of this session, leaving the republicans with just enough time to release edited transcripts of this hearing to provide them with an "excuse".
I think that the revolt against Pelosi by a handful of Dem 'moderates' is a part of this plan. Sow chaos amongst the Dems to slow down any reaction by the new congress.
I'm confident that both Mueller and Schiff sees this, and has plans for dealing with it.

(24,128 posts)yes, it's clear that the "acting" AG and this pathetic attempt to grill Comey and Lynch are two prongs in the same effort to shut down the investigation.

(27,792 posts)My guess is that House Republicans would INSIST on the hearing with Comey and Lynch being behind closed doors.
If Comey has to "fight the subpoenas in court," the outcome will depend on whether or not the judge was appointed by Trump or not.
