The National Weather Service declared a blizzard warning Saturday in south-central and southeastern Nebraska, including Lincoln and Grand Island.
Omaha and most of the area north of I-80 was still under a winter weather advisory Saturday as of 3:45 p.m.
An Omaha street crew was dispatched about noon to pre-treat the "major and secondary routes with brine," Mayor Jean Stothert told The World-Herald in a text message. The full crew will begin work at midnight.
Forecast
The area could see whiteout conditions overnight and into Sunday morning.

(34,170 posts)posted here in Lansing, MI for 4"-6" of heavy, wet snow, and possibly as much as 6"-9" if banding sets up. I'm not sure why it's just an advisory; usually they go for a Winter Storm Warning for that much snow. Oh, well. I plan on going out for supplies this afternoon while it's still above freezing so I won't have to do anything but look at it out my window, snug on the couch with my feline hot water bottles, Sammy and Otis.
For those of you who must brave the storm, please be safe.

(6,907 posts)I wouldn't travel anywhere in the northern half of Kansas today.
In Wichita we have a inch or two of snow but wind gusts hitting 45-55 mph. KC Chiefs are on a bye week,if they would have had a home game today....WHOA!!!

(10,749 posts)Our winter weather - northern New England - has been weird. Unending rains in summer after parched fall and early summer. Snow last week and temps down to 0 a few days ago. Back up to 40 today with rain. Granted, I don't track weather day by day and don't have a 20-year weather journal, but it's just plain weird.
So, is this upcoming blizzard normal for you?
BTW, glad you're still with us.

(18,816 posts)It will drop 40 degrees. The wind picks up and blows the snow all over the place.
This us pretty typical. But it is too early.
