Rep Vargas statement on the closure of the San Ysidro port of entry

WASHINGTON, DC (November 25, 2018) Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement today regarding the closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
Todays unprecedented demonstration at the San Ysidro Port of Entry is a direct result of President Trumps failed leadership. His complete disregard for human rights, international law, and immigration law threatens the safety of federal officers and the millions of people that pass through the border region.
The President continues to address a complex global issue with an offensive simplicity that makes the United States appear callous and xenophobic to our neighbors and allies.
The President and the Republican controlled House and Senate have had two years to pass immigration reform and improve our asylum process. Sadly, they have failed to take any productive action. Now more than ever, our country needs bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform. Comprehensive immigration reform will improve border security while treating immigrants with human decency.

(1,414 posts)We don't need bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform. Republicans are traitors and the time for bipartisanship is over. We need unconditional surrender and every member of the elected republican party had to account for the various crimes they have perpetrated in our name over the now nearly past two years. If there is to be immigration reform the Democratic party must be the party that produces it, unilaterally. There can be no compromise with traitors, there is no middle ground with evil.
