Birther Jerome Corsi admits he helped Roger Stone concoct a 'cover story' for infamous prediction
Source: Rawstory
Right-wing conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi is now admitting that he helped Trump ally Roger Stone concoct a false story that he would subsequently use to explain how he had advanced knowledge that WikiLeaks was in possession of Clinton campaign manager John Podestas emails.
In August 2016, Stone infamously wrote on Twitter that it would soon be Podestas time in the barrel weeks before WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange revealed that he was in possession of Podestas emails.
According to Corsi, in an excerpt of his new book obtained by the Daily Caller, Stone came to him and asked him for help creating a cover story that could help him explain how he knew the Podesta emails would be released weeks before the actual drop.
I suggested Stone could use me as an excuse, claiming my research on Podesta and Russia was the basis for Stones prediction that Podesta would soon be in the pickle barrel, Corsi writes. I knew this was a cover-story, in effect not true, since I recalled telling Stone earlier in August that Assange had Podesta emails that he planned to drop as the October Surprise, calculated by Assange to deliver a knock-out blow to Hillary Clintons presidential aspirations.

(33,643 posts)It MAY be criminal conspiracy, but that could be difficult to prove. You kinda have to show that Stone or Corsi either directly aided (most likely 'funded') the original theft of the emails, or they bribed Wikileaks for their public release, knowing that they were stolen originally (by anyone, though perhaps stolen by a foreign power makes the penalty worse, not sure).
Just 'knowing about them' and 'encouraging' their release, in writing or verbally, is not enough to land anyone in any serious trouble ... hence Corsi admitting it in his book ... although lying about it to federal agents/in legal depositions ... obviously can.

(8,200 posts)Webster defines collusion as: secret agreement or cooperation for an illegal or deceitful purpose.
Webster defines to Conspire as: to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use any such means to accomplish a lawful end. It appears to me that to conspire is not necessarily unlawful and depends on what is intended. However, collusion is defined as being an act that purposely designed for the committing of an unlawful act or at best one that is deceitful.
I would appreciate the legal definition. But it certainly appears to me that collusion can be an illegal act.

(33,643 posts)The law books don't use the word 'collusion', they use the words 'criminal conspiracy'. They CAN be synonymous.
However, it's also true that BOTH 'conspiring' and 'collusion' ... can both involved something totally legal/benign. Both terms literally just meaning 'talking about doing something with someone else'. My Co-Worker and I both 'colluded' and 'conspired' ... to go a football game last weekend ... for example.
The point I'm making is ... Stone simply being 'aware' that Wikileaks had the docs, and even 'encouraging' the release of such docs ... is not, in and of itself ... an illegal act.
The ILLEGALITY surrounds the THEFT of the documents.
To prove illegality by the Campaign, you have to prove Stone/Corsi/Trump/etc was either materially involved in the actual theft ... OR they paid to have the documents released KNOWING that they were stolen and/or actually received those stolen documents, again, knowingly (or should have known).
Trumps people simply 'colluding' to 'encourage the release of the documents' is not illegal (politically very troublesome? YES! Illegal? No), which is all we know to have occurred ATM. Mueller ... likely knows more

(22,669 posts)Vice President Mike Pence discussed the situation surrounding WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange during a meeting Thursday with Ecuadorean President Lenín Moreno in Quito, a White House official said afterwards heeding calls from Democrats wary of Mr. Assange staying shielded more than six years since seeking refuge inside Ecuadors London embassy.
The vice president raised the issue of Mr. Assange. It was a constructive conversation. They agreed to remain in close coordination on potential next steps going forward, a White House official said in a statement issued following Thursdays meeting with Mr. Moreno, The Washington Examiner first reported.
Ten senators, all Democrats, wrote Mr. Pence a day earlier urging him to press Mr. Moreno about the WikiLeaks publisher during his trip abroad Thursday. The Washington Times RW Rag

(11,885 posts)And Mueller knows it already , he will be behind bars forever . Corsi is a fool , and will soon regret what he's doing , and has done. So will Manafort. Manafort also set himself up badly now, unless he turns and offers up more they already have information on. These two are hoping or have been told they'll get a pardon , but it'll be another illegal act , and more conspiring with a co-conspirator by abuse of power , then stricken down. trump is making it worse for himself and all involved, especially for his family members.
