House Republicans Called Emergency Meeting On Cheese As Shutdown Approached
Source: Huffington Post
As the federal government was heading for a shutdown Friday night, House Republicans called an emergency meeting.
Plot twist: it was about cheese.
During her broadcast that evening, MSNBCs Rachel Maddow appeared astonished while reporting on the gathering, which was arranged so that lawmakers could discuss the Curd Act, a proposal to allow some cheeses to be advertised as natural despite having artificial ingredients
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) was clearly irked, feeling the timing was pretty inconvenient.
This is an emergency meeting that were having here and Ive seen some surreal things around this place, but this is really something, McGovern said. Vital parts of our government are about to shut down in just a few hours, and the Republicans have called an emergency meeting on cheese.

(11,552 posts)Tone-deaf is an understatement when government workers are deprived of paychecks just prior to arguably the biggest holiday of the year and all Sessions can obsess about is a bill to protect chemical additives in "natural" cheese. Ideally, there should be a statute that provides when the government shuts down, Congress and the White House forego their paychecks for the duration. It's legislative malpractice and borderline criminal to let them get away with depriving hundreds of thousands of workers of much-needed paychecks, while they can party for the holidays, unscathed.

The timing is awkward as was the Texas Rep chairing the meeting trying to gin up some dunder over any questioning of the issue and the timing on Rachel last night. They didn't turn off the shot until he clammed up. We need to quit giving them soundbite opportunities, we need to show them flat footed and blathering once they get past the 10 sec script. Ask hard questions and be prepared to answer them ourselves.
cheetolini will be gone bye/at 2020. We'd better be thinking about getting back as much Senate as possible. And there's even more Republican seats coming up in 2022. This is about more than ridding cheetolini, its about clearing out those who enabled him and abetted him.
Next 10 years is tough domestically and internationally. But we can do it. We have an amazing amount of talent in the wings. Lets get all of them in office. I don't know of anyone from any list of 10 candidates for POTUS by any of us on DU that couldn't beat cheetolini and/or Pence. We need to be concentrating on all other state and federal offices as hard as possible. In 2024 we could be facing Mitt Romney. A solidly Democratic Congress would be very helpful.

When are we going to wise up to this shit? They do it on purpose. Even their base are hip to it. That cop who couldn't wait to beat up protesters is on tape saying "It's gonna get IGNORANT tonight!" People tricking out their cars to spew black smoke. Shooting and decapitating seals in Washington state.
It is all just about "owning" us.
