Paul Manafort pressured by Russians to pay back debt while Trump's campaign chair

Source: CNN/ Time Magazine

Washington (CNN) Paul Manafort was pressured by a former Russian associate to pay back millions he owed during the time he was running Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, according to a new report from Time magazine.

Former Russian intelligence officer Victor Boyarkin was in touch with Manafort during the 2016 US presidential campaign on behalf of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who has close ties to the Kremlin, the magazine reported Saturday.

Boyarkin told Time magazine that he contacted Manafort to collect the debt he owed to Deripaska.

"He owed us a lot of money," Boyarkin told Time this past fall. "And he was offering ways to pay it back."

So now we know who Manafort, Trumpís Campaign Manager, was colluding with, and why- because of a multi-million dollar debt to key Russians.

1. Manafort is much safer in prison.

You don't burn Oligarchs like Deripaska for $25 million and think you're not going to pay a price. I'm sure Deripaska has the reach to get Manafort inside the prison if he wanted to. The prison industry has never been a paragon of honesty and incorruptibility. Guards will get drugs to prisoners for $20. How far do you think they'd be prepared to go for $100,000.....or even $10,000 for that matter? There's no safe place for Manafort to hide in this, or any other country now.

2. The only safe place for Manafort

would've been the U.S. Marshals Witness Protection Program.

But it's far too late for that now.

5. Even if Manafort wanted to pay back the money, wasn't all his money forfeited to the court?

6. Yup. Manafort is probably wishing he'd thought of that sooner.
