With no bathrooms open, Yosemite visitors have created a health hazard by pooping on roads

Source: sfgate

Yosemite has closed several popular areas due to a rather disgusting public-health reason: There's human feces and urine on the roads.

Visitors to Yosemite National Park have taken to depositing their waste on the side of the park's busy roads, as the park's restrooms and visitor centers remain closed due to the partial federal government shutdown.

The park itself has remained open since the shutdown began on Dec. 22, but without trash collection and a private place on-site to pass waste, roads have become blocked in more ways than one, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"With restrooms closed, some visitors are opting to deposit their waste in natural areas adjacent to high traffic areas, which creates a health hazard for other visitors," National Parks Service spokesman Andrew Munoz said in an email to the Times.

Too bad they can't dump their "dumps" on the steps of Mar a Lago or the White House where it belongs. Send a large, stinky package to the GOP leaders as a belated Christmas gift for shutting the govt down over the holidays (send it COD too!).

I know that the fucking moron would have the lowly taxpayers clean it up.

If those packages could be delivered to his specific jail cell once he is incarcerated than I am completely behind the "movement".

How many people climb El Cap each year? This is nothing new to Yosemite.

Now raise your hand if you were already aware that this had been going on for the past fifty years?

I prospect for gold near the public areas in Yosemite there's a bear there that keeps pooping in the area I'm at. I still haven't seen him but every time I clean the poop away he's back again several days later to poop it up. Damn bear is doing it on purpose.

Husband's ancestors came to the area during the gold rush, settled in Big Oak Flat, became prospectors, and later opened a blacksmith shop. Rumor has it that when one of the family's 13 boys was looking for money, he was told to go outside and dig for gold. Curious as to how much is left these days.

There are public areas around the Merced River are open to the public. Further up north in Big Oak Flat and all the way to Auburn there's more gold but it's harder and more dangerous to get to. Only got a gram of small flakes so far from a month of prospecting but it's still there, the rivers still keep washing down gold from the Sierra Nevada mountains. I do it more for the adventure than the hope of getting rich, but you never know.

idea people were still panning for gold up there and that there are commercial gold panning companies. Even capturing a few flakes would make the effort worthwhile.

You don't know how many Trumpsters have told me to go back to my shithole country (born in USA) and that if people defecate outdoors, then it is a shithole country. Which is impeccable logic, as if American haven't always been doing this when camping and hunting and other outdoor activities since always.

Now Trumped up MAGAts will have to claim that Americans do this by choice, not out of poverty, so America is still superior.

Some Americans will never understand that the fees charged in some countries to use public restrooms is to pay staff to clean it and avoid vandalism, not to screw over poor people.

I’m also willing to bet that someone willing to engage in this type of behavior would also have just as little respect for LNT principles had the park been fully staffed.

If you’re conscious of the environment and wilderness; this is just something you don’t do.

You either give a fu*k; or you don’t.

There’s no third option here...
