Pelosi says there's 'interest' in taking action on Steve King

Source: The Hill

BY MIKE LILLIS - 01/11/19 05:51 PM EST

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested Friday that the House will take some punitive action against Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who’s under fire from both parties for recent comments defending the “white supremacist” label.

“We’ll see what we do about Steve King, but nonetheless, nothing is shocking anymore, right? The new normal around here is to praise white supremacists and nationalism as something that shouldn’t be shunned,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol.

Pressed about what specific action the House might take, Pelosi declined to get into details.

“I’m not prepared to make any announcement about that right now,” she said. “But needless to say, there’s interest in doing something.”

5. I'd be glad to do it for free. But it'd have to be face to face. Know where I can get a deal on ...

on a cream pie in DC? The flavor is unimportant.

9. Right. Maybe a McD's hot "apple" "pie"? A McD's St Patric's day green shake ...

it'll make a great contrast with all the orange.

14. True. Dirty little secret I read about I think in Esquire Magazine about how all these dairy farmers

couldn’t snurvuve without undocumented immigrant labor. The immigrants become like family members to the farmers yet they vote repeatedly for anti immigrant politicians like Steve King. It’s the damnest thing I have ever read. Republicans cultist.

16. Ok. I am out on a limb here for being to hard on even our opponents

But I know these guys who use migrants and they become ‘just like family’ while paying them shit wages and such. Not the dairy industry but veggies and citrus in Florida.

Many of them would be very happy if they could make them slaves. Hell, on many aspects they already are. Don’t make the Boss man happy and there is the risk of them having you deported. They have one legal guy paid to harvest their crops and when whole family’s show up to do the work they ignore it.

I run in the Agriculture circles. Not all by any means are like this. But a shit ton are.

On several occasions I have seen owner demeaning/threatening men who were holding shovels. They would never talk that way to a man with rights. After one episode I finally snapped and told the guy if he talked to me that way I would go across his head with a shovel. His response?

“Of course you would. You’re an American “.

I was 28 at the time. I’m 53 now. It taught me a lot about how power dynamics.

17. the "just like family" argument

is what we used to hear in the south regarding slaves. Heck, I still hear racist people making this argument
to this day. It goes like " well, we cared for them, they were just like family, etc...".

19. If they have the power to do something they should.

We need to send a message that you can't bring your hate into the public sphere, & this man, a representative of The People, spewing that crap in Our Government, should definitely know better & be held accountable.

... bigots in the House. And the 53 in the Senate. And the two at the top.
