At HUD, Waters says more than 90% of workers are furloughed. Families and others who depend on HUD funding are in danger of losing homes or living in unsafe conditions because of projected lapses in payments.
Waters quickly moved on to a fairly long recital of the alleged wrongs committed by former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau acting director Mick Mulvaney, including the closing of an advisory committee and office of student protection.
She announced she had sent a letter to Mulvaney, who is still head of the Office of Management and Budget and now President Trumps acting chief of staff, alerting him she would be investigating the actions he had taken during his tenure at CFPB. Her letter, she said, informs Mulvaney that while his time running the Consumer Bureau may be over, the time for accountability for his actions is about to begin.
She said she is also planning to introduce legislation, the Consumers First Act, to undo the damage of Mulvaneys acts at CFPB.

(22,077 posts)recall that Elizabeth Warren was the chief architect of this protection bureau (pls. correct me if I'm wrong), and voters rec'd another important safeguard. The only ones that seemed opposed were the banks, etc. (which figures)...guess who the republican-led Congress choose to listen to? The bankers of course. Voters be damned.
Waters seems like a go getter and will get to the bottom of things. I heartily wish her the best to root out the evil done at the bureau during Mulvaney's tenure.
