Florida bill would ban abortions if fetal heartbeat detected
Source: CBS News
A bill filed by a Florida state lawmaker aiming to ban abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected has led to public outcry from some progressive groups, with one advocate stating it's "among the most extreme" ever filed in the country.
House Bill 235, filed by Republican Florida state Rep. Mike Hill, would make it illegal for women to get an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
The fetal heartbeat is usually detected when a woman is around six weeks pregnant. Women typically discover within four to seven weeks that they are pregnant, according to the American Pregnancy Association.
According to the bill, any person who provides an abortion after a heartbeat is detected commits a third-degree felony.

This essentially bans abortion and forces women to give birth against their will.

(4,341 posts)they spend all day with the same issues from 80 years ago...all they think is about the abortion issue, which is their issue, how to rewind the progress women have made, how to cheat in elections, how to use money from the tax payers to take trips with their families, fix their houses, etc., how to screw up education, etc., how to start wars, how to screw up healthcare to give more money to pharm and medical industry, cutting taxes for the rich (which includes most of them), and so on.
We don't ever hear repubs coming out with ideas to better the country, please correct me if I am wrong, and let me know which bill they have worked on that is positive for the citizens of the USA.
This is all they do all day and night, think about how to screw people...we need to get rid of republicans, we need to vote them all out. They are destroying the country, and now that their boss is Putin things are getting worst.

(1,279 posts)If the fetus is by law a human being, how can a doctor perform an abortion? Wouldn't that be a 3rd degree felony? So how can a woman who has been raped have an abortion. How can a woman who might die from carrying to term have an abortion? Is it legal to take an innocent life to possibly save another's life or mental well being? Either a fetus is human or it is not human. You can't have it both ways. Since these human beings are God's children according to people who write these bills wouldn't a fetus with a heartbeat that spontaneous aborts cause God to be guilty of a 3rd degree felony?

I wonder why...

(20,148 posts)therefore, one would think they would consult the Bible on these matters.
"Out of more than 600 laws of Moses, none comments on abortion. One Mosaic law about miscarriage specifically contradicts the claim that the bible is antiabortion, clearly stating that miscarriage does not involve the death of a human being. If a woman has a miscarriage as the result of a fight, the man who caused it should be fined. If the woman dies, however, the culprit must be killed:
"If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
"And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth . . ."--Ex. 21:22-25"

The Bible is remarkably consistent in saying life begins when the being draws its first breath.

(3,175 posts)Again, this is going by memory from a while back, but supposedly those laws applied to them because they were the tribe from which priests were drawn, and as such the rules for them were different than for the rest of the Israelites. That may be wrong, or my memory may be faulty (definitely possible, just ask my wife).
In any case, most of the Mosaic Laws no longer apply in Christianity, as the New Covenant was established upon the death and resurrection of Jesus. That's why Christians can eat shellfish and all the other stuff. As far as I can recall, only the Ten Commandments are still held to apply, plus the commandments from Jesus. You know, the ones about loving one's neighbor as oneself, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, etc.
Huh. It's almost like people pick and choose which parts of the Bible to follow (or at least purport to follow) based on their personal/political agendas. Nah, that must just be my imagination.

(1,279 posts)Those are actually the only religious parts of The Old Testament. Those are read on the Sabbath or Saturday morning. The only part of The only real religious parts of The New Testament are the first 4 books, the parts where Jesus speaks. He said that he did not come to abolish the old laws, Matthew 5:17-20. Also in the 4 books of Jesus, he never mention homosexuality. So Christians can do one of two things. Actually they can do anything they want, but if they say the old laws don't apply to them, then they have to go by what Jesus said about homosexuality which is nothing or they go by what he said about the old testament which is follow the laws, so you Southern Baptists, put down that pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw. I am Jewish, but I am not going to put down my pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw, catfish or lobster. Though with my upbringing, I still can not drink a glass of milk with meat. I expect some people will agree with me, some people will disagree with me even within the Jewish religions of which there are millions.
