Trump agrees to end shutdown without wall funding

Source: Hill

President Trump said Friday he will back a short-term funding bill to reopen the government that does not include funds to construct a wall along the southern border.

"I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and re-open the federal government," Trump said.

The president said he would sign a bill that would open the government for three weeks. In that period, he said, a bipartisan committee of House and Senate lawmakers will meet to develop a funding proposal for Homeland Security.

He expressed optimism that the resulting pitch would include funds for his long-promised border wall, which he maintained "should not be controversial."

The minute he mentioned it, people rushed to point out to him AND to the media why he cannot legally do it for the wall.

My take....he just backed down in a face saving way by saying 3 week deadline.
Don't know what trick he will try then, if any.
He has learned bullying does not work, altho that is his favorite way to react to the NO word.

If we don't hear about 5 Billion $ wall again, we will know the shutdown was for other reasons, such as creating chaos in the economy.

I don't know if he can shut down the government again. I suspect even the Republicans in Congress would seriously consider overriding a veto if Trump doesn't sign the new appropriation that comes up in 3 weeks.

A bunch of people on here are saying that he is a 'ruined man.' I think he's seriously shaken. This was a pretty huge defeat and no matter his rhetoric, it was clear he was capitulating to Pelosi.

You know what my fondest dream is? To see this awful man perp walked in cuffs out of the White House. He is such a traitorous criminal. I hope people are beginning to see what a snake the man actually is.

And the Stone arrest! Maybe jaws of justice are tightening. We can only hope.

As an expatriated Kentuckian I should be allowed to use that reference here:
• This event is a cave of epic proportions given Individual-1’s promise to own the shutdown until he got his wall; and
• The wondrous national park in south central Kentucky will soon be able to re-open to visitors (other than raccoons, possums, bats, and other small creatures).
If you choose to apply that reference to the SCROTUS’s lower abdominal cavity, that is your choice. I apologize in advance for images that concept evokes!

Now is not the time to celebrate, but continue our pressure to remove Trump from office.

With Flynn going to jail, Manafort going to jail, Cohen going to jail, it is just a matter of time before Stone goes to jail. The winds are at our backs and Trump is going to jail too.

He lost big on this. I didn’t think he would ever capitulate. I fully expected him to declare an emergency today, but I now realize that was a bluff. This is the first time Trump has ever lost a battle. He is a broken man, seriously weakened by what has happened. He thought his moves were brilliant and that he would be able to triumph over the Democrats, build his wall, be wildly popular, win re-election, and go down in history as the greatest president ever. I believe he has finally hit the wall of reality and is still a bit stunned by the impact.

The guy, like all narcissists, is basically a cockroach. He fools people into thinking he’s strong, but at the end of the day, he’s just an empty coward.
