Democrat vows to move forward with impeachment, dividing his party

Source: The Hill

House Democrats are facing the prospect of another floor vote on impeaching President Trump, the first since they took control of the chamber.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) announced this past week that he will call for a third vote on impeachment that is sure to divide Democrats.

He previously forced House floor votes in 2017 and 2018, under a GOP-held House, that put fellow lawmakers on the record about impeachment.

This would be the first time the House would vote on impeachment under a Democratic House, and a decision to not move forward would invite criticism.

2. True..... but it's not doing any good to rush things.... there needs to be ample evidence to convict

Until there is such an overwhelming amount of evidence that Senate repubs have no choice but to convict this will only be a waste of time. I have a strong feeling we'll be getting that evidence soon, but until then we need to be patient and let the repubs self-implode.

3. This would only be a vote to call for impeachment hearings, at which evidence

could be carefully, thoroughly, developed.

I'm not sure this would be a bad thing.

7. Totally agree

It's important to know that the SDNY New York case could take him down sooner rather than later.

6. well, the fascists would have tried to impeach a Dem pres for just 1/10th of what tRump did

and they wouldn't have waited this long, probably the day he was sworn in.

I think it's more a matter of timing. When will it do our side the most good?

9. Its pretty simple. Wait for Mueller to finish his investigation before we decide to go down this ...

road, because right now it would fail in the senate and damage any near future impeachment proceedings.

14. Let's compare 45 to Clintons transgressions

that set up Clinton's impeachment proceedings. It's orders of magnitude worse. He defiles the Constitution and our public institutions daily, in words and in actions. Impeach now, concurrent with the multiple investigations in progress. Congress won't invoke the 25th amendment, so impeachment is the only recourse to remove this racist, sociopath from office. Unless you want to wait... and hope.. that an independent doesn't split the vote and put him in for another 4 years. Which is what will happen if a presentable independent runs. Don't fall for the "let's wait, be patient" BS. 2 plus years is enough. We know who he is, what he represents, what he is doing, and how bought and sold he is by Putin.
Green needs co-sponsors. Call your reps. It's past time.
Sorry for previous typos.

25. Here's how it goes down

House impeaches, the Senate refuses to convict and Trump gets the exoneration he seeks giving his 2020 campaign a real boost.

28. Typical Hill BS.

Im peachment is already being worked on. Nadler and Schiff are in high gear. Warren has already said it. It's just not quite ready yet. I think they are close at this time even though they have only had power for a month. The house has shown no sign that they are going to surrender their responsibility to Mueller. They Democrats are not divided and nothing goes to the floor unless Pilosi wants it to. I think that at this late stage many are thinking it better not to impeach and hope he gets the 2020 nomination.

29. If we were not living in Bizzarro world, Trump would have been impeached a year ago.

Any other Democratic President, Obama or a hypothetical President Hillary Clinton, would be gone by now, if they had displayed a fraction of the malfeasance of this President. Objectively...he DESERVES impeachment! Already even before Mueller's findings. Obviously. But its also political timing. I understand.

But Democrats have a history of shying away from confrontation (look forward), and (its off the table), there is a danger we wait too long. I say why not have Green and whoever else that wants to join, start their motion, even while the majority of Dems do not support it at this time. In fact it works out good that Dems cant be tied down to one way or the other as a group. Its a big tent. But it would start the narrative going in the media, it would make Donnie wet his pants again.
