GOP senators offer praise for Klobuchar: 'She's the whole package'

Source: The Hill

Newly minted 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) is winning praise from Republican senators, with several describing her as "respectful" and "responsible" and calling attention to her willingness to compromise.

“She wants to achieve a solution and I would hope that’s not a disqualifying thing for someone who would like to be president,” Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said in a Politico article published Monday. “I like her a lot and hope that’s not harmful to her.”

“She’s a person of character and great ability. She’s the whole package. That’s probably too nice," Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) said.

Klobuchar on Sunday officially launched her presidential bid, becoming the fifth senator to enter the race, joining Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Cory Booker (N.J.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.).

27. Intentional 'kiss of death'. For a 'con, perhaps the last Dem they want to see in 2020 general

election.

13. Sen. Kloubachar is a moderate Dem and was a friend to Sen. J. McCain

In her autobiography she talked about how she selected a college that was conservative. She said she wanted to learn how they think, so she studied with and befriended them. I don't remember all of it, and I am paraphrasing from her book. Also, she traveled with Sen. McCain to several other countries, as Senators, doing good-will work.

She has progressive views from what I heard in her 2020 kick-off speech.

We will learn more about her as time goes on.

I think she says some tremendously important things. It’s republican opinions I don’t give a shit about.

17. Sort of Like How Republicans Praised Hillary Clinton...

...to throw shade on Obama suggesting Hillary might primary Obama in 2012. Thankfully Democrats did not fall for these stupid GOP tricks back in 2012.

Now, folks might just repeat them.

6. the troll-bots are backing her....

This isn't a false flag. They really want to run against her. That tells you something.

They will lose a lot of seats if the conversation is around taxes, finance reform, and regulation. They will save seats if it's about pablum issues.

They are just trying to get the best possible opponent. One that isn't for economic reform.

They are obvious, and they are being backed by russian troll-bots. If the russians want her. I DON'T!

14. Thank you.

We've got an important choice to make in 2020- the fate of our country depends on it! Please let's make careful choices informed by our own knowledgeable judgment, and not be swayed or paralyzed by the breathless pseudo-"scandal" (aka overheated or misleading gossip) of the day.

I am already tired of the trolls, hand-wringing, and gossip-mongering, and (especially) of Democrats falling for Republican-and/or-Russian-enabled dirty tricks, and the primary season hasn't even started in earnest yet!

11. All our candidates that have declared up to this point are centrists ideologically

this is just a case of Republicans telling Dems who to vote for again. They just can't figure out whether to sh*t or go blind right now. Their white maleness is threatened by Harris even though politically she may be the most 'moderate' of the group...don't count on any calls from her to reform the criminal justice system or abolish private prisons anytime soon. Their scrotums just shrink anytime they think of her haranguing them in the Senate. Their wallets and superPACS are threatened by Warren, but it's not like calling for restablishment of Glass-Steagall and preventing banks from gambling with your deposits is Marxist or anything. Ironically Klobuchar may be the most progressive all across the board of these three. They may get what they asked for, but not what they wanted. IMO, a female Al Franken they really do not want to see...and I see a lot of the same traits in her I see in Franken.

by changing their registration from REP to DEM and working for the Klobuchar 2020 campaign. (I don't think they like her that much.)

20. Is it just possible that she scares them?

If they can quickly eliminate her from contention by calling attention to their respect for her, they probably assume that she will be tainted goods for most Democrats. I'd say WRONG! I'm not sure who I back among the candidates already announced and any potential ones, but Klobuchar is a formidable opponent to the GOP and their policies. Right now, the only candidate that doesn't do the Dems any good insofar as a presidential candidate - in my opinion only - is Gabbards. Some of her views are just unembraceable. The other candidates have many strong and attractive characteristics, but not one of them is a perfect candidate. They all have weaknesses in one respect or another, be it gender, age, ethnicity, etc. - which doesn't mean I believe they are weak, merely that those particular characteristics will turn off some swath of the voters, and they are therefore exploitable by the GOP. But, women, young voters, urban dwellers, and people of diversity make up a larger voting bloc than does the average voter in rural, primarily Caucasian and aging male populations. Many - most I'd daresay - will not vote for a Dem in any circumstance because they've been rendered brain dead by the right wing radio pundits and Fuxx News for too long (much of them turned after President Obama was elected). But to only try to WIN in the urban and coastal areas will not put a Democrat running for the presidency in the WH. They're going to have pick off enough voters in the flyover states and regain some traction with people who voted for Obama ten years ago, and then again four years later, to be able to win in the Electoral College. So, whoever the candidate is has got to be acceptable enough to voters in that bloc that reinforce chances of a win in the EC.

23. George Will praised her also so there is reason to be concerned.

It may be an attempt to promote her at the expense of candidates they are really afraid of - such as Harris and Warren. However, I will try to ignore the blather of Republicans and evaluate her on her merits.
