Quebec to shut down its only nuclear reactor
Source: CBC
Quebec's new government has confirmed it won't proceed with the multibillion-dollar refurbishment of the province's lone nuclear reactor and will instead shut it down.
A spokesman for incoming premier Pauline Marois gave the confirmation Tuesday, one day after the first public screening of a new film on the reactor that raises questions about its safety for people living nearby.
The government of outgoing Premier Jean Charest decided in 2008 to rebuild the Gentilly-2 nuclear plant at a cost of about $2 billion, but stopped work after the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011.

(1,437 posts)in July of 1760 (the last Naval battle of the Seven Years War) is what really sealed the fate of New France. I live about 2 miles from where the battle took place and find artifacts and stuff with my metal detector. If the French had won that battle they would have been able to supply the troops in Quebec City where they were at a standstill and waiting. With both sides looking east down the St. Lawrence River for troops and supplies, they waited and since the English defeated the French here, they were able to supply their troops win. Montreal fell after that and the rest is history.
