Republicans report Cohen to justice department for allegedly lying in testimony

Last edited Thu Feb 28, 2019, 04:19 PM - Edit history (2)

Source: The Guardian

In a public letter to new Trump-appointed attorney general William Burr, Jordan and Meadows said Cohen had made "numerous willfully (sic) and intentionally false statements of material fact" during the hearing.

The pair said:

Mr Cohen's testimony before the Committee on Oversight and Reform on February 27 2019 was a spectacular and brazen attempt to knowing (sic) and willfully (sic) testify falsely and fictitiously to numerous material facts.

Jordan and Meadows said Cohen had lied when he said in the hearing: "I never defrauded any bank."

Matt Gaetz just got rewarded for his intimidation of Cohen.

Gym Jordan and Meadows don't realize that this will fizzle and make them look stupid. If Barr or DoJ doesn't deny it, then the prosecution will fizzle.

Cohen did not defraud the banks. He only did so at tRump's direction. He was part of a conspiracy but not the mover / motivator / beneficiary party.

The DOJ is not going to take it seriously or "investigate" Michael Cohen for things he has already been investigated for and plead on. All three things are nonsense and nothing that involves "perjury". His comments about "bank fraud" can't be seen as perjury because there is a court record to those facts. The idea about wanting a position in the White House is not a fact that can be proven one way or another because its his personal feelings. Nobody would ever be charged with perjury over such a thing. Finally, the foreign entities thing was already debunked on spot by the committee.

They're just like Donald and his family; telling the truth is not a virtue to them, and making a huge drama to draw attention to themselves is, to them, always good. There's something wrong with their brains.

Michael Cohen admitted that he falsified important material on his Bank Loan Applications. What he said after that was that he never left any loan, bank or otherwise, unpaid. Every loan was paid back. I remember his testimony. Cohen pled guilty to Bank Fraud, so naturally he didn't say that he didn't falsify his application.

If someone lies to me to get money, but, in the end, pays me back every nickel, I'm far less angry than if he lied to get a loan and stiffed me.

Kinda like his ex-boss.

lest he be next on the list to be examined for public veracity. Mark is well known in NC for his rather elastic version of what constitutes Truth, Beauty and the American Way. His remarks of convenience are often more confounding than any Senator Helms ever spoke.

May they all rot in the same federal cell block. Preferably somewhere they can appreciate the effect of rising tides and no tennis courts.

The trump family can’t rub two words together without lying and they don’t want to investigate any of that.

They know Cohen didn’t say what they are claiming. It is a sleazy pathetic but effective way of getting the media to talk about something other than the bombshell allegations and the korean negotiation fiasco.

the truth. And they don't want to find it since it will expose their own deviancy.

Cohen's opening statement laying out his culpability was very good. In a normal court of law he would be able to say "I addressed this already [sir]". In the grandstanding the the [R]s seem so love, the whole 5 minutes need to be reading from their prepared script. ?Prepared by whom?

A simple Google search will show you that. They are attempting to apply thier definition.

It won't work. This will go nowhere. I hope they sue thier asses off.

These are the games they play. Muddy the waters.

Fuckers.

This will hurt them in the long run and makes Cohens statement about protecting a man and them caught in the same trap much more applicable.

This isnt about vernacular and lawyer games. This is about treason and obstruction ; the future of our country is at stake.

I'm not positive that Meadows and Jordan can really even refer this to DOJ for investigation. I believe it would take Cummings, or the majority of the committee would have to vote on it. I could be wrong, but I think the committee chair has this power, but individual members do not. I say this because the Democrats were not able to get referrals for Hope Hicks, Erik Prince, Don Jr and others back when they didn't have majority control. Again, I may be wrong.

and that other clown, Meadows. (And every other sycophantic robotic automaton on the committee, for that matter.)

Barr should send a polite letter back to these jackasses, appreciating their concern for the stability of the Republic but chiding them for their overzealous interpretation of laws they truly seem not to understand. In other words, send them, basically, a "Dear Assholes" letter, but with sugar. IMHO, anyways.
