Senate Confirms 37-Year-Old To Lifetime Seat On U.S. Circuit Court

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON ― The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm Allison Jones Rushing, 37, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, making her the youngest federal judge in the country.

The Senate voted 53-44 to put Rushing into the lifetime court seat. Every Republican present voted for her. Every Democrat present opposed her.

Democrats raised a number of concerns with Rushing, who is a partner at the D.C.-based law firm Williams & Connolly. She worked for Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian organization that has been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. She has argued that there were “moral and practical” reasons for banning same-sex marriage. And some lawmakers said she simply lacks the experience or legal ability to be a federal judge.

...

Trump is dramatically reshaping the nation’s federal courts. With Rushing’s confirmation, he has now gotten 32 circuit judges, 53 district judges and two Supreme Court justices confirmed. That’s so many circuit judges ― more than any other president confirmed by this point in his first term ― that 1 in 6 seats on U.S. circuit courts is now filled by a judge nominated by Trump.

Congresspeople and senators come and go by vote but these appointments are permanent.

She (like every other Rethug judge) needs to be impeached and possibly criminally charged (if it's found she's issued any criminal rulings).

She won't be impeached (unless she breaks the law), much less criminally charged.

She’s a judge. She can have her opinions overruled by the Supreme Court, but unless the sun stops shineing get tomorrow, there’s no such thing as a criminal ruling.

I know it sucks when they appoint young conservative judges, but the "impeach!" posts I will never understand, because they aren't realistic. Unfortunately, she'll be a judge for a very long time, unless she ever <gasp> makes it to the SC.

Find some B or C student (the A students have the prospect of making real money after graduation), get them to promise to follow a strictly conservative ideology after they graduate, and then have the Republican Senate confirm them to the Federal bench so they'll affect our society for the next 60 years.

Even at 37, Rushing potentially has nearly four decades to influence the direction American society evolves, especially since she's on the U.S. Court of Appeals. Trump is fucking up the country way beyond his term of office. Once he's done, I doubt the damage he wreaks will ever be able to be repaired.

Next to tearing up the Constitution and rewriting a new document to their suiting (the GOP's wet dream), by enabling Fat Donnie the Republican Party is doing the next best thing.

And they cannot remove any of his appointments without impeaching each one in turn. Impeachment is also a pipe dream. We’d have to get 2/3 of the Senate to vote yes, and more than half of the Senate already voted to confirm.

Having this kind of effect on the judiciary is what Republicans have dreamed of for 50 years, they’ll never give it up now that they have this opportunity.
