Trump blasts McCain, bemoans not getting 'thank you' for funeral

President Trump on Wednesday unleashed fresh criticism of John McCain, attacking the late GOP senator for his connection to a dossier of claims about the president and Russia, his vote against a Republican effort to repeal ObamaCare and his support for the Iraq War.
Trump spent five full minutes jabbing at McCain during an official White House event intended to highlight manufacturing in Ohio. The barbs marked the fourth time in the last five days that Trump has criticized McCain, who succumbed to brain cancer last August.
"I gave him the kind of funeral that he wanted, which as president I had to approve. I dont care about this, I didn't get a thank you. That's OK," Trump told workers at a tank factory in Lima, Ohio.
"We sent him on the way, but I wasnt a fan of John McCain."
The president stoked controversy in the days after McCain's death last year when he waited to lower flags to half-staff and offer an official statement. He later did not attend McCains funeral at the familys request.

(3,335 posts)in office received. BFD. The asshole had someone make a phone call to put things in motion. BFD. Trump is such an asshole that would make you want to put a foot up his ass. He doesn't realize he's playing with a family's emotions at the worse possible time.
I doubt that he even made the phone call himself. But listening to him, you'd think that he carried the body himself to where it lay in State, dug the hole, and buried him himself. His retched family needs to teach him some etiquette. Just because his family is willing to put up with his bullshit to one day be able to claim some inheritance, doesn't mean the rest of the country wants to or needs to.
Trump is the kind of evil person that if he were on fire, I wouldn't spit on him if I thought it would help in any way; and I've never felt that way about anyone, until him.

(713 posts)Not to mention delusional. He might be the biggest asshole in history. He certainly is the worst President ever.
The past few years have been a surreal nightmare. Looking forward to 2020 when a Democrat beats him and gets him the hell out of office.
If he refuses to leave, the new President can order the Secret Service to remove him.

How otherwise sane people could support this human disaster is a mystery.

Guess what?
DT didn't have a say.
These occasions are either authorized by a congressional resolution or approved by the congressional leadership, when permission is granted by survivors.

(28,941 posts)If requested, either one authorizes a full military honors funeral and interment.
Those honors are not given; they are earned.

(713 posts)There used to be some rational Republicans. A few of them, but some. McCain famously voted against repealing Obamacare. Now this deceased military hero is being slandered by this Orange Asshole. Where are the sensible Republicans who should be condemning Trump's remarks?
Whatever you might say about McCain, he certainly had some backbone. Is there anyone like that left in the Republican Party, or are they just remnants of the moronic Tea Party and idiot Trump lackeys?
Someone in that Party needs to stand up against Trump, or there will be no hope for anyone who ever runs as a Republican again. If they do not want the Republican Party to be permanently labelled the Party of stupidity and white nationalism, they need to condemn Trump NOW, clearly and publicly. Otherwise, they will not have a shred of credibility come next election cycle.

(23,973 posts)Did McCain's state funeral really require permission from the White House, or is this just something else he is pulling out of his ass, as he usually does?
The Vanity Fair editor who described Trump as "gossamer-skinned" certainly nailed it. What a wuss!
sarge43
(28,941 posts)1. Congress decides by joint resolution who rests in state in the Rotunda.
2. The National Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Episcopal Church. S/he approves any state funeral service in the cathedral.
3. As noted, McCain, as a Purple Heart recipient and military retiree is, if requested, entitled to a full military honors funeral and interment.
Wuss is too kind. Moron is a petty demented creep.

That would be 435 representatives + 100 senators. So, 535 people.

(521 posts)My grasp of the separation of powers is that memorial services for deceased Members of the House or Senate is handled by the respective chamber, with the overall supervision done by the Speaker of the House, who is responsible for the general administration of the entire Capitol Building. The President, being the Executive, not Legislative, Branch, has no input on Congressional memorial services.
Trump is merely pretending to have played a role in McCain's funeral.
