LONDON (Reuters) - Hundreds of thousands of people opposed to Britains withdrawal from the European Union marched through central London on Saturday to demand a new referendum as the deepening Brexit crisis risked sinking Prime Minister Theresa Mays premiership.
Marchers set off in central London with banners proclaiming the best deal is no Brexit and we demand a Peoples Vote in what organisers said could be the biggest anti-Brexit protest yet.
After three years of tortuous debate, it is still uncertain how, when or even if Brexit will happen as May tries to plot a way out of the gravest political crisis in at least a generation.
May hinted on Friday that she might not bring her twice-defeated EU divorce deal back to parliament next week, leaving her Brexit strategy in meltdown. The Times and The Daily Telegraph reported that pressure was growing on May to resign.

(7,429 posts)Russians were running quite a show in 2016. They were using micro-messaging in both the US and the UK. And both were amazingly successful as fraudulent marketing ploys. Now the UK is getting a well-deserved backlash, just as our Justice Department and the Democratic Party (separately) are engineering a backlash of our own.

(4,341 posts)The day after they voted for 'Brexit', the most popular search in Google coming from England was "What is Brexit?", people who had voted for it did not understand what they were voting for, which is what happened in the USA as well for those who voted for the orange buffoon, what happened in Venezuela for those who voted for Chavez, etc., etc.
Russia/Putin did quite a job in England with the Brexit thing, and I have to think that there was also conspiracy with those British parliament people who pushed the anti-EU rhetoric to the country, why there has been no investigation on that I don't know, but there should be.
Anyway, the point is that this Brexit craziness needs to be used as a huge lesson, one where people need to understand that voting does have consequences (less of course when one has the Electoral College), but nonetheless, we still have to fight to educate people, to make sure they understand that politics is not a sport, that the only team you need to root for is your country and your people, that as a voter you are the athlete who determines who wins, and the outcome must always be one that favours the country, not a bunch of corrupt politicians. Somehow, the mindset of the USA voter must be changed, voters must become more educated, they need to understand that no one is born under a political party, no one should feel they owe loyalty to a political party, you must choose the best (disregard the orange buffoon's concept of 'the best people'), but truly the best to make life better for everyone.
You are scare of "Socialism" but you don't really know what it means? Then look it up, find out how a "Social-Democratic" government doesn't change your dreams of some day becoming very rich, and how it affects positively your life and that of your compatriots. Learn to fight ideologically for your country to make it better, accept the fact that the USA IS NOT the best country in the World when there is so much poverty, when the numbers are so high in child and mother mortality, when your future is threatened by greedy loans which you will be paying for years after graduation when people in other countries with "Social-Democratic" governments do not pay a dime to go to college, when they don't pay a dime for healthcare...yes, they subsidize it via taxes because when used honestly, that is what taxes are for. People in Europe take three months of vacation, you don't believe it? just look when the "World Cup" is on, all the Europeans traveling from city to city supporting their teams the entire month, even if their teams do not win, they stay and have fun.
Enough listening to the USA crooked politicians from the republican party, they are taking advantage of the ignorance and laziness of the voters, they are scaring you into making the wrong decisions.
Anyway...enough...got carried away...I hope the World learns from this Brexit experience.

(24,692 posts)There may be folks who, above all, wanted chaos in the UK. They 'won' and go the chaos they desired.
What the million people who marched yesterday (and the 5 million who signed the petition to the UK parliament in support of remaining in the EU) want is to achieve something positive out of the chaos. The right will never give up in their battle against immigration, worker rights and environmental standards. Giving up and conceding defeat give the right what they want. Chaos wins. Rinse. Repeat.

Unfortunately, the tories seem to be against it because EU's more liberal mandates are anathema to them. They would rather live in chaos.
Also, many of UK's corporations have already moved all or part of their operations into Europe.

(41,203 posts)though most of us couldn't even get into Parliament Square, there were so many people.
But I doubt that our leaders will bother to listen.

(143 posts)told me he voted for Brexit and the reason was that "immigrants had ruined our schools." I can understand his desire for the best education for his children, but he needed to take a better look at what was creating the problems in his nation. just like here in the U.S. it's not the children in the schools creating the problems. it is the politicans and the political party that has defunded our schools and vilified education and knowledge and especially critical thinking. England has an opportunity to reverse their awful, unthoughtful decision, it will be much more difficult for us to reverse the damage done, if we can at all.

(12,047 posts)Two ministers touted as a potential caretaker PM in reports of a cabinet coup say they fully back Theresa May.
Environment Secretary Michael Gove told reporters it was "not the time to change the captain of the ship".
And the PM's de facto deputy David Lidington insisted he was "100% behind" Mrs May.
MPs are expected to get the chance to hold a series of so-called indicative votes on possible alternatives to Mrs May's withdrawal deal, but Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay said they would "not be binding".
