New report by 2 US senators details strategies to prevent "security crisis" in the Caribbean
By David McFadden, The Associated Press September 13, 2012 7:20 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica - A pair of American senators released a new report Thursday detailing their recommendations to prevent a future security crisis in the Caribbean, where numerous unpoliced islets and barely monitored coasts remain near-perfect conduits for drug shipments.

California Democrat Dianne Feinstein and Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley argue that Washington must be prepared to counter an uptick in drug trafficking in the Caribbean when, not if, the pendulum swings back a bit from Central American countries and Mexico.

"Clearly, the countries of the Caribbean do not face the same security crisis as Mexico and Central America. Yet we must be prepared as the 'balloon effect' inevitably moves drug trafficking routes back to the Caribbean," said the report by the U.S. Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control.

The senators argue that Washington should have a "more integrated approach to security assistance in the Americas that does not overly support one sub-region at the expense of others." It also acknowledges that the U.S. must do "significantly more" to reduce demand for drugs within its borders.

in your 2 most recent posts, you quote a word or two in the title and say "Interesting".

Glad you think it's interesting, but do you have anything else to say but "Interesting"?

The Senators are floaters...they float the idea in preparation for some action down the road.

This stuff is never just about what these congress people say.

Laugh at me, I don't care. I think this is more about what they don't say than about what they say.

Everyone has known for years that the drug war is a failed effort. The U.S, Jamaica and the Senate. So now the U.S. must do "significantly more"? And even if the report purports a "security crisis" concern, why should Jamaica or the Caribbean be the point of pre-emption? My suspicion is that it's just more likely that the oligarchy's archipelago of tax havens in the Caribbean is simply getting more insecure.

Not wanting to spend their own money, or not wanting vulture capitalists to "mix" their money with that of Caribbean cartel boyz, this 'report' can give cover of drug war allocations -- buried within other larger bills -- to provide for their tax haven security -- with this whole series of actions being buried in the buzz of high media drama events. Guess which island is closest to the Cayman Islands.
