Rep. Tim Ryan announces presidential run

Source: Roll Call

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, announced Thursday that he will run for the Democratic nomination for president.

Ryan unveiled a campaign website at the same time he appeared on “The View” on ABC. According to The Vindicator, citing sources close to the congressman, a rally in downtown Youngstown will follow on Saturday.

Ryan has reportedly invited local organized labor leaders, a key constituency in the 13th District.

Ryan has been critical of the Democratic Party since the election in 2016 — President Donald Trump carried three counties in his district that voted for former President Barack Obama in 2012 — as being insufficiently supportive of “blue collar” workers.

He fights for working people just like Sherrod Brown. But I don't think he has the presence or charisma to carry on a long campaign. He's been very involved trying to keep GM Lordstown open (that's in his district, too).

One good thing, is that he'll definitely raise awareness of the plight of the working person. He and Sherrod Brown have a lot in common on that platform.

He's right about the blue collar workers. With all the interest in protecting the various groups, I don't hear "blue collar worker" mentioned very often. The Democratic Party used to be the party of the working class, the blue collar worker, the union people. It still is, but we haven't focused on them much, IMO.
