Supporters of Rep. Ilhan Omar are urging Facebook and Twitter to suspend President Donald Trumps accounts after the president posted a video attacking the Minnesota Democrat.
We dont have to give hate a platform, a new petition states.
Launched Saturday by the Womens March, it accuses the president of inciting violence and engaging in hate speech through the propaganda video targeting Congresswoman Omar he posted Friday which uses an out-of-context phrase Omar said in reference to 9/11.
.....................................
The petition calls on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to do the right thing and [s]uspend him from Twitter and Facebook for inciting violence and engaging in hate speech. Remove his propaganda video targeting Congresswoman Omar.

(1,588 posts)it's hard to believe they only have 9000+ signatures on there since yesterday. I think it just shows how scared this country is of tRump. Oh, we can post on here anonymously, but when it comes to putting your first and last name and email address, it's a little too scary. We really are scared he'll come for me.

The only way they'll respond is if their companies take a financial hit.

Where is the corporate media on this, twiddling its corporate thumbs as usual. looking the other way so as to remain neutral, even if it is good versus evil, neutral is the prime directive.

(4,066 posts)It's silly to even suggest this. Time after time after time the social platforms find some "excuse" to not ban him. That is never going to change. It brings them too many subscribers.

(1,568 posts)I have little doubt the folks in charge would suspend him if they thought they could do it without taking a hit, but they know that doing so would hurt their profits. They also probably fear what Trump would try to do them if they did it.

(1,752 posts)start enforcing gtheir own rules against hate speech and stop serving as propaganda outlets .... well lets just say its infantile to think that FB & Twit are just going to give up their cash cow voluntarily, without some encouragement to do so.
Theres people who gave up a lot - sometimes their lives - to fight facism and other things.... and now some folks cant be bothered to give up social media for a few lousy weeks or months?
