Trump attorneys warn accounting firm not to hand over financial records

Source: Politco

The presidentís attorneys urged Mazars USA to not comply with an imminent Democratic subpoena.

President Donald Trumpís attorneys are warning of potential legal action if an accounting firm turns over a decade of the presidentís financial records to the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

Trump attorneys William S. Consovoy and Stefan Passantino are urging Mazars USA not to comply with a subpoena that Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) plans to issue on Monday for Trumpís financial documents, calling it a politically motivated scheme to take down the president.

ďIt is no secret that the Democrat Party has decided to use its new House majority to launch a flood of investigations into the presidentís personal affairs in hopes of using anything they can find to damage him politically,Ē Consovoy and Passantino wrote to Jerry D. Bernstein, Mazarsí outside counsel.

The attorneys said they were formally putting Mazars Ēon noticeĒ ó an implicit threat of legal action. They also urged Bernstein to hold off on providing the documents to Cummings until the subpoena can be litigated in court, suggesting that a protracted legal battle is likely to ensue.

2. If tRump is above board, then there should be no worry that it's a

motivated scheme to take down the president. By hiding everything, they constantly reveal that tRump apparently has an awful lot to hide.

3. No privilege for accountants (like attorney client)

Why would they fall on their swords for that asshat unless they want to cover for their own possible malfeasance as well

4. No, I don't think they will refuse. See, many an accounting/financial firm have turned over....

records even w/o a subpoena when asked by the relevant House/Senate Committee, FBI, local law enforcement, etc. Further, many a mobster/criminal have been indicted post a review of said types of records. The principals of these firms may suffer an after-the-fact lawsuit BUT, and it's a big one, all they need to do is wave a legitimate subpoena in front of the judge. Trump's lawyers know this threat is really an empty one since once the records are turned over, what would be the point?

5. I'm wondering about Trump attorneys William S. Consovoy and Stefan Passantino.

Do they also file questionable tax returns and financial documents?

9. The House needs to start sending their Sergeant at Arms to go retrieve things

- Send him to get Mueller Report
- Send him to get Tax Returns
- Anything else they want

Make sure to ask him to bring 100 of his closest, armed LEOs with him. If anyone complains, just apologize.

Rule #1 in politics: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

11. House Oversight (Cummings) requested

the financial documents from Trump's accountants. They were willing to, but asked for a supoena directing them to turn over the requested records. Cummings complied.

House Ways and Means (Richard Neal) has asked for Trump's tax returns.

13. I would say that Trump attorneys William S. Consovoy and Stefan Passantino

need to appear before the law board in what ever state they are licensed in to explain their actions and, if they are as stupid as they appear to be, be disbarred.

He can sue them I suppose, but his threats have no teeth against a subpoena. Fuck him.

pardons are only for presidents and governors.

18. I don't know why he did this.

He has to have known Dems would come calling for his records. If i were him, i wouldíve just sent some intern peon Trump worshipper over to collect all copies of his records. Itís not like the firm has a legal right to keep his tax info in perpetuity.

19. His threat to sue worked

because folks can't afford expensive lawyers, not because they did anything wrong. But now he's in a different league. The House can afford all the lawyers it needs.
