Source: Body of missing boy AJ Freund found in rural area miles from his home
Source: Chicago Tribune
The nearly weeklong search for missing 5-year-old Crystal Lake boy Andrew AJ Freund ended Wednesday morning with the discovery of his body in an unincorporated area near Woodstock, according to a source close to the case.
The discovery came as police again talked to his mother, JoAnn Cunningham, and officers returned to the family home, where they removed a shovel, a mattress and other items. Police scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m., though it had not yet begun by about 1:30 p.m.
The body was found near Gayle Drive on farmland bounded by woods and a small stream. A neighbor who watches the property for the owner said McHenry County sheriff's deputies knocked on his door early Wednesday and said they were going to begin a search. Other agencies, including the FBI, aided in the search.
Luis Maldonado described the area as fairly isolated. "It's very quiet," he said. "If they found a body here, I don't know how they found this place."

(9,426 posts)The little guy had been in foster care for something like 18 months. Too bad he was returned to these two "parents" I guess there is a younger boy in the family who has been removed from their care. Sometimes the wrong people are capable of reproducing. God rest his tiny soul.

(21,646 posts)This poor kid had terrible times
Born with opiates detected, in foster care 2 yrs & returned,
DCFS knewthe family home from prior calls
Power cut off, broken windows, cluttered home filled with feces
His brother was taken in to child service when Andrew was reported missing
His mother is 7 months pregnant
I believe a drone sweep helped locate the body
a resident in the OP was quoted as not knowing how they could have located him out there
and cell phone records with locations forced a confession from parents
Every picture they have shown on the news here in Illinois since missing he has a big smile
So sad

Not a slam dunk, but it seemed suspicious. Didn't seem like the normal missing or abducted child case.

(21,646 posts)but they were no longer romantically involved although the mother is 7 months pregnant and at one point on local TV a few days ago, the press said the parents were not talking to each other anymore as of that day, due to some kind of break between them
The mother was wanted on a traffic warrant.
If you cant come together when your son is missing from the house the two of you live in and are holding separate pleas for him to come home and wanted on a warrant , yeah it did not look good.
Now it comes out the investigators found heroin needles in the home
We were sitting down to dinner and turned off the local news here . My teens then discussed how could someone do that to their kid. I had no answers . I couldnt just say drugs , because drug addicts dont normally kill their children . Neglect may be common but this was a murder.
Sick people.
They couldnt believe the parents would wrap him in plastic and dump him after it happened
They also asked what would happen to the baby she is carrying
I told them it would be taken by child services after birth and placed in a foster home, maybe with the brother and she would be on trial for murder.
Shame they have such questions because this happened and how the parents manipulated the press and their community since last week knowing the truth
