Liberal activists occupy Venezuelan embassy in Washington to oppose Trump policy

Source: USA Today

Deirdre Shesgreen, USA TODAY Published 8:52 p.m. ET April 24, 2019 | Updated 8:58 p.m. ET April 24, 2019

WASHINGTON – Liberal activists are bracing for a showdown with the Trump administration Thursday at an unusual location: Venezuela's embassy, a stately four-story building in one of Washington's most exclusive neighborhoods.

That building was vacated earlier this year after President Donald Trump denounced Venezuela's president Nicolas Maduro as illegitimate and recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's true leader. Maduro quickly blasted the move and recalled most of his diplomatic staff from the U.S., leaving Venezuela's embassy nearly empty.

Now, however, the diplomatic building is filled with left-wing protesters vehemently opposed to the Trump administration's policy. They say the Trump administration is trying to orchestrate a coup in the oil-rich South American nation.

. . .

Flowers and about a dozen others have taken over the building – camping out "24/7" to prevent the U.S. from installing Guaido's diplomats in the building. They've draped banners and signs inside and outside, trying to call attention to what they say is an imperialist U.S. policy. And they're sleeping on couches at night, making sure to clean up after themselves when they use the kitchens and showers.

1. Arresting Members Of The Embassy Protection Collective Would Be Unlawful

Arresting Members Of The Embassy Protection Collective Would Be Unlawful
by Kevin Zeese / April 24th, 2019

We have told the State Department that if they enter the Venezuelan Embassy they are violating international law and if they arrest members of the Collective for trespass or unlawful entry these will be unlawful arrests. Members of the Collective are in the embassy with the permission of the elected government of Venezuela.

In two messages to the State Department today, the Collective explained that we are not violating the law and if there are unlawful arrests we will pursue legal action to hold people responsible for ordering arrests or making arrests.

We made this clear in writing to the State Department even before April 24th but we reiterated this today after the Secret Service came to the embassy and photographed the outside building to prepare plans to illegally enter the building and make unlawful arrests.

Tonight when the Collective held an amazing forum with John Kiriakou, a former CIA official who spoke about an “Insiders View of US Regime Change,” outside there were Secret Service and DC police. This act of intimidation included not only the threat of arrest but also intimidated journalists some of whom were asked for photo identification and press information. View the forum with John Kiriakou here. During this forum both Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, our lawyer from the Partnership for Civil Justice, and I publicly made the points below so there was a video record of our concerns with the threats from the State Department police and the illegality of any arrests of Collective members.

7. "Members of the 'Collective'"

That is exactly the name of the "Colectivos" (Collective) militia group inside Venezuela which nothing but a bunch of criminals who were given weapons, motorcycles, and a license to kill by the Chavez regime with the pretext of "defending the revolution". If you can think of the Wild West in the movies where gangs of criminals come into a town, ransacked, raped, killed its citizens? well, that is the "Colectivos".

They need to be outed, there is no validity in those "Members of the 'Collective'", it is all a farce.

8. The CIA/FBI don't need to go in

Just don't let anyone, anything go in, they will have to come out for food eventually. In the mean time the CIA/FBI need to try to identify these so called "Member of the Collective".

2. Someone tell USA Today the difference between loony leftists and liberals

That RT-watching, Assange-worshipping, Putin-admiring, Maduro-supporting "left" wing idiots are from the lunatic fringe of politics.

16. You wish to formally endorse Maduro's oppressive dictatorship?

You want to pimp him as some plucky leftist underdog facing down the Great Satanic United States even as dissident journalists vanish, protestors can't march without 'accidentally' getting shot, his entire economy has collapsed and been replaced with a black market, his citizens starve and the elderly perish for lack of medicine that he REFUSES TO ALLOW IN THE COUNTRY?

So noted...

(Don't be sad, this is far from the first time that some well-meaning but misguided leftists got played for suckers and lost track of who the real villain is...)

6. And Maduro/Putin financed so called liberals

These people, they don't represent the majority of the Venezuelans, and I have to think they are being paid by the Maduro and Putin regimes...

You are correct yerop, the only thing is that I don't think they are pure in their beliefs, they are pawns of the regime.

11. John Kiriakou, a Putin-paid felon, & Mara Verheyden-Hillard, supporter of North Korean government

This is the bunch of crackpots & Putin shills occupying an empty building, hoping the cops get involved so they could get attention and claim to be victims of the American-Global Great Satan Capitalist Hegemony.

5. Knowing Venezuelan's very well I can assure you, these are not liberal activists

I have to think these people are being paid by the Maduro and Putin's regime.

The majority of Venezuelans, and I am talking about 80% at least, want USA intervention to take Maduro and his regime out of power.

The FBI should investigate the so called "liberal activists".

14. But for America (its actions; its inactions; its existence)

Venezuela would be a true workers paradise, one where all class distinctions would be broken down, where every citizen would have plenty to eat, would have perfect freedom with all of the life-sustaining leisure time they need, the best health care in the world at no cost, and would live in peace and brotherhood with their fellow Venezuelans since all the root causes of conflict and violence will have been eliminated, in the most non-violent and easiest of ways. People from all over the globe would be flocking there looking to emigrate, which of course Venezuela would allow them to do with no questions asked, because that's the humane and moral thing to do.

All of that and more if not for ...

Bloody America and its [picks a card randomly from deck] very existence.
