Trump court pick confirmed despite no blue slip from Schumer, Gillibrand
Source: The Hill
The Senate on Wednesday confirmed President Trumps pick for an influential circuit court despite neither home-state senator returning a blue slip.
Senators voted 54-42 on Joseph Biancos nomination to serve as a judge for the 2nd Circuit. Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Doug Jones (Ala.) voted with Republicans to confirm him.
Biancos confirmation comes despite neither Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) nor Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) returning a blue slip on his nomination. He is Trumps 38th appeals judge to be confirmed.
Bianco was confirmed unanimously to serve as a district court judge in 2005, but his current nomination had run into controversy because of his ties to the Federalist Society.

(11,854 posts)At this point in time, good certainly doesn't feel like it will prevail. Every hour they and their cronies take us farther and farther into the land of no return.
I wish I could string every asshole up who voted for him and even those on our side who kept declaring they wanted him as the opponent because he would be a "breeze" to beat.

(3,813 posts)Remember when Reid would wring his hands and explain that there was nothing he could do without a blue slip from some Repub Senator?
Funny how McConnell's and Reid's range of powers were so different as Majority Leaders.
Heck, McConnell was more powerful as Minority Leader than Reid was as Majority.

(37,648 posts)So if Harry Reid couldn't proceed with a positive blue slip, it's because he didn't have control over the Chairman (who would have been a Democrat, also).
So it's Reid's fault, if he didn't meet w/the Chairman and make the rule about the blue slips such that they could confirm w/o positive blue slips returned.
We have to play by the same rules as the other side, if we are going to be fairly represented in the country.
