He voted for Trump. Now he and his wife raise their son from opposite sides of the border

Source: Los Angeles Times

Forced apart by President Trump’s stringent immigration policies, Jason Rochester and Cecilia Gonzalez have spent the last 16 months raising their 6-year-old son from opposite sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Like so many separated families, the couple have experienced the years of Trump’s presidency as a grim journey of restless nights and tearful goodbyes. But unlike many in their predicament, Jason voted for Trump.

He knew Trump planned to get tough on immigration — building a wall and deporting drug dealers, rapists and killers. He never imagined anyone would consider his sweet stay-at-home wife a “bad hombre.”

I feel bad for their son and the wife Cecilia, but I hope this trumpanzee dies alone.

Yes, it was only a single vote, but that support emboldened Trump and his ilk.

I hope his wife and child on the Mexico side can somehow find the future they deserve--without HIM

They think they are protected because they are one of them.

That's the same way white women who side with Nazis and the KKK think. But the only person who died in their most recent rally was a white woman.

Repeatedly promised that poor unfortunate wife of his that she’d be okay, they were gonna be okay, nothing’s gonna happen to US. ‘Cause WE’RE the good guys. Yeah, just another sucker roadkill in the trump highway to Hell.

What do you bet this pathetic naïf votes for trump again next year? Because babykillers or some such lame rationalization.

I’m TRYING to find compassion for him. Really trying HARD! Trying my damnedest to sympathize. I can for his wife and their kid. But for him, it’s damn near impossible! YOU voted for this, dude. You were the one who didn’t listen. Didn’t want to listen. And it’s rebounded directly on you in ways you can’t even imagine.

May your offspring grow up to be a liberal pro-choice Democrat.

So even after his wife is deported, he isn't sure he made a mistake voting for Trump. His wife was deported, his child got cancer and his mother couldn't be with the child, yet as long as abortion is made illegal, I guess it's all good.
How do you feel sympathy for someone like that? I don't.

Yep. Perfectly willing to sh** in everybody else's sandbox ...
What IS a little surprising (perhaps disappointing) is the large amount of 1st and 2nd generation that are strongly opposed to "illegal immigrants." Don't kid yourself, Trump has some supporter in the Latino community.

I don't care what people think, that is how I feel, MORONS!

I'm against illegal immigration, but I don't call them illegals, I call them undocumented,
they're here and they contribute to the economy.

Cesar Chavez was against illegal immigration because of what it would do to farm wages.
I also believe that he probably would not have endorsed or voted for Dolt45.

What is happening is that Dolt45 is a pure racist against anyone with brown skin.
Why is this not happening on the Canadian border?
Why in a speech that Dolt45 ask for more Scandinavian immigrants?
He only wants the right color skin immigrants, not immigrants from those
$hit-hole countries (Dolt45's words no mine).

That article was painful to read. At least he finally realized the only way to get his wife back was to get the laws changed instead of relying on God. And who could have ever imagined there are no Walmarts or McDonalds in poverty stricken villages in Mexico?!

What a moron.

I have zero sympathy for him but feel for his wife and kid.

How about asking if his wife and son bless his decision?

Or is that of such secondary consideration that he doesn't bother?

If this guy thinks God blesses sending his wife and his child's mother into exile, he should learn Spanish and go live in Mexico in God-blessed Trumpanzee bliss.

......But Jason’s story is not uncommon. About 1.2 million immigrants who lack legal status — more than 1 in 10 — are married to a U.S. citizen, according to the Migration Policy Institute. Nearly a third have a child under 18 who is a U.S. citizen.

Still, Jason has struggled to win sympathy across the echo chambers of social media.

When Ashton was going through chemotherapy in October, Jason posted pictures on Twitter of his son in a hospital bed, tagging Trump. “Please read this and help my family!” he wrote. “I voted for you because I believed you would be fare to illegals and now my family is suffering!”

Trump did not respond, but others did, dubbing Jason a “hamburger brain” and a “sociopathic monster.”

“Trump doesn’t believe ‘good illegals’ exist,” one commenter wrote. “I feel bad for your boy. I have zero sympathy for you.”

“Why do Republicans lack all compassion until something happens to them directly?”............................

Yet he has caused something far worse than the regret that MIGHT come from an abortion. . . .

A mother whose heart and soul are shattered because she couldn't be with her baby when he was sick and needed her most. When he cried out for her in his suffering and she couldn't wrap her arms around him to comfort him.

Not sure there are words to express the contempt I feel for him.

He listens to James Dobson who convinced him that if Trump got elected the Supremes would overturn Roe v. Wade. WTF? We've got our work cut out for us in 2020. These are the people who don't understand what obstruction is and why Trump should be impeached. Single issue voters. He voted for Obama for his stance on immigration. But apparently settled law over a procedure he can never have is more important to him? Christ on a bike.
