Storm warnings issued as tornadoes hit Oklahoma and Texas
Source: CBS News
Chickasha, Okla. An outbreak of tornadoes started Monday in Texas and Oklahoma, where forecasters were predicting the worst storm in more than two years. More than 150,000 school children were allowed to stay home as a precaution.
Powerful gusts of wind and rain whipped through Afton, Oklahoma, late Monday afternoon. The first tornado of the day reported to the National Weather Service hit just north of Paducah, Texas. In Crescent, Oklahoma, two tornadoes were on the ground just about a mile apart.
The threat in the Southern Plains is so severe, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center issued a rare warning of a "high risk" of severe weather from northwest Texas to central Oklahoma. It's their most serious warning in more than two years.

(3,445 posts)A storm line moving northwest missed Oklahoma City except for a lot of rain. Towns west, north, and northeast of OKC are having massive flooding today. Schools are still closed in some towns because the streets are full of water. There were several tornadoes yesterday in north central Oklahoma. But yes, no deaths that I can tell.
Right now, at 30 am CDST, it's still cloudy, but the sun is peeking out.

(4,066 posts)Despite the fact I often trash my home region of the South and regions like yours, I know there are good people who, for lack of a better term, are "STUCK" there. For reasons due to work, family or both, they cannot move to a more progressive place. Or, they are engaged in trying to make the region bluer and better.
My heart always thinks of you in these times. Stay safe.
