US intercepts Russian bombers near Alaska for second time in two days

Source: The Hill

U.S. fighter jets Tuesday intercepted Russian bombers and other aircraft off the coast of Alaska for the second time in two days.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said in a statement that four F-22 stealth jets intercepted two Russian Tu-95 bombers Tuesday that had crossed into the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone, which extends approximately 200 miles off Alaska's western coast.

The bombers returned to the area with two Su-35 fighter jets and were again intercepted.

"The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and at no time entered U.S. or Canadian sovereign airspace," NORAD tweeted.

probably happened daily during the cold war, looks like the cold war is back on.

9. A way to test our/their response time

Invade airspace and count how many min's it took to scramble jets... Didn't work when we scrambled a SR-71..
Would it be an act of war if an American jet go it front of a russian bomber and dumped some fuel all over it's nose??? Piss on them, if you will???
"oops, hit the wrong lever "

4. There have been at least a dozen provocations with US military forces in the last few months

with both the Russian and the Chinese military. Some naval, some in the air. Several of them were instigated by our forces.

7. A useless waste of time and money...

If those F-22 jets had not intercepted the Russian Tu-95 bombers in time - nothing would happen.

A drunk was leaning up against a lamppost on an urban street corner, doing his best to snap his fingers.

“Why are you snapping your fingers?” I asked him.

“To keep the tigers away,” he said.

“But we’re in the middle of the city!” I pointed out. “There are no tigers here!”

“See, it’s working!” He replied.

8. Tu-95 bombers.

Why are they flying bombers near our airspace ? Recon, I can understand. But bombers ? A little provocative, no ?
