California Gov. Gavin Newsom calls for nationwide background checks on ammo purchases

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday called for nationwide background checks on people purchasing ammunition, saying it would be the “next phase” in the heated debate over gun control.

Newsom’s comments came a day after a shooting at a municipal building in Virginia Beach left 12 people dead and six others wounded.

Talking to reporters after a Saturday morning speech at the California Democratic Party convention in San Francisco, Newsom also criticized President Trump for tweeting his condolences to the Virginia Beach community, saying he had failed to do anything to stem the epidemic of gun violence in America.

“Grow up. Recognize and reconcile that we live in the only country in the world where anything like this happens,” Newsom said of the president. “He has completely failed to address this issue in any meaningful way. The words become insulting the more they are repeated [with] no action to follow them up. His positions are extreme.”

1. I really don't see how that would help anything. I know of people that have

stockpiled thousands of rounds in thinking they will make a profit if that is ever done. That is why there was an
ammo shortage during the entire Obama administration. If that happens they will make a killing on black market
ammo sales.

Take the latest shooter - he only had 1 traffic infraction from 6 years ago, which is practically a spotless record.

If you can pass a background check to buy a gun then you can pass a check to buy ammo.

Every positive step needs to be taken. Every time there's a mass shooting everyone says, "We need to start doing something" and then someone makes a suggestion and out come the replies of "But that wouldn't help much because......".

I doubt if very many of the mass murders are registered Democrats.
It's a different mindset.

7. it's hard to use an illeagally purchased or stolen gun

if you can't buy Ammo .. This will save American lives !

8. I order ammo online. I am in favor of background checks.

9. Makes sense to me in light of the fact that guns can be obvtained illegally. Sure,

ammo can and will be too, but this would make it that much harder and prosecutable.
