New Cuba travel restrictions imposed by Trump administration

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration on Tuesday imposed major new travel restrictions on visits to Cuba by U.S. citizens, including a ban on many forms of educational and recreational travel.

The Treasury Department said in a statement that the U.S. will no longer allow the group educational and cultural trips known as "people to people" travel to the island. Those trips have been used by thousands of American citizens to visit the island even before the U.S. restored full diplomatic relations with the communist government in December 2014.

Treasury said it would also deny permission for private and corporate aircraft and boats. However, commercial airline flights appear to be unaffected and travel for university groups, academic research, journalism and professional meetings will continue to be allowed.

"It kills the people-to-people category, which is the most common way for the average American to travel to Cuba," said Collin Laverty, head of Cuba Educational Travel, one of the largest Cuba travel companies in the U.S.

told you how much I hate that POS? My heart is breaking for all the tour guides, escorts, bus drivers, and the warm, optimistic Cubans I met.

There is no reason for this other than more of Tiny's dismantling everything that President Obama started.

In case Bolton and Tiny hadn't noticed there's nobody named Castro in the Cuban government anymore. Cuba had begun taking steps to update it's constitution, including an 'innocent until proven guilty' provision.

This is only going to hurt the Cuban people. I'm glad I visited Cuba when I did before these idiotic restrictions took effect, the people are wonderful and I'm glad I had the chance to visit. I'll go back again once sane people are back in charge of our government.

Oh yeah...... their tuKola made with cane sugar blows away the HFCS crap on our store shelves, and mixes wonderfully with Havana Club Especial rum. I look forward to the day I can enjoy those again.

The MLB had reached an agreement with Cuba which would have allowed Cuban baseball players to play in the US without having to go through human trafficking channels.

Read about Yasiel Puig's journey to the U.S.,that's some really scary shit. The MLB-Cuba agreement would have taken the human traffickers out of the picture and made it possible for their best players to earn good money and in turn send some back to their families in Cuba.

When I was in Cuba I talked with several Cubans who were thrilled that some of their players would finally get a chance to play in the MLB without having to defect.

My husband was stationed at Guantanamo as a corpsman in the early 70's during the Vietnam War. He wanted so badly to go back since he had been forbidden to see the country when he was stationed there. We went as soon as we could and I'm so glad we did.

People can still go to Cuba by leaving from Canada or Mexico I guess, but waht a pain in the ass.

Trump is a total jackass. This will only last as long as he's in office and then will be changed. Everyone I talked to in Cuba who were natives thought Trump was a buffoon, and LOVED Obama!
