Trump floats new emergency resolution to impose Mexico tariffs
Source: The Hill
Senate Republicans said Tuesday that the administration has floated declaring a second national emergency to implement new tariffs on Mexico, a move that would set up a high-stakes clash with Congress.
GOP senators emerged from a closed-door lunch with White House deputy counsel Pat Philbin and Justice Department officials saying the issue was discussed during the meeting, but that the administration indicated it had not yet reached a resolution on whether or not it would need to take the controversial step.

Trump says he will impose the tariffs on Mexico under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act as soon as next week unless Mexico cracks down on the flow of migrants from Central America across the southern border.
But declaring a second national emergency, after Trump used the tool earlier this year to sidestep Congress on border funding, would pave the way for a significant fight with Senate Republicans, who have publicly and privately voiced opposition to the tariffs.

"If they don't stop them, we are closing the border," Trump said. "We will close it and keep it closed for a long time."
"I'm not playing games," he added.

But we really like working with them. They are excellent musicians with an understanding of lyrics and how to use them in satire and parody, so for us of TFT, they really are kindred spirits.

(9,313 posts)In the wake of a disaster, FEMA funds provide emergency shelter and support services to people who have been rendered homeless. They also provide transitional shelter/housing funds for those who need ongoing assistance. It's about time that we address homelessness with the same "emergency management" approach -- and dedicate sufficient funding to do the job, including support services to address addiction and mental illness. (e.g., "no strings," immediately and freely available Buprenorphine for heroin and other opiate/opioid addicted).
According to HUD's "point in time" survey over 500,000 are homeless on a given night -- an enormous number that is horrific, but is also a massive underestimate.
How America counts its homeless and why so many are overlooked

Ive never been of the opinion that the count is even close to the complete number of those who experience homelessness on a particular night, said James Wright, a homelessness expert at the University of Central Florida who was a leader of the count in Orlando for about seven years. It always gives me a chuckle when HUD the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which publishes the data reports it to six significant digits. Its real misplaced precision.
