Russia Denies Trump's Claim of Withdrawal From Venezuela

The Russian government on Tuesday denied withdrawing any of its military troops or technical experts from Venezuela and contradicted recent news reports and a vague tweet from President Donald Trump that Moscow had told him it pulled out its personnel.
"No, we do not inform anyone on this theme," Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, told reporters Tuesday, according to the country's state news service. The "limited number" of "technical specialists" in military and economic affairs are staying in the oil-rich Latin American nation, where the local economy is reeling from U.S.-imposed sanctions.
Ushakov was responding to a question about Trump's tweet, which came Monday amid his ongoing state visit to the U.K., in which the president stated, "Russia has informed us that they have removed most of their people from Venezuela."
It is still unclear whether Trump was referring to roughly 100 Russian military advisers that Moscow dispatched to Venezuela at the end of March and that Trump said should get out. They arrived to support the embattled regime of Russian ally President Nicolas Maduro as it faced increased pressure from opposition leader Juan Guaido, backed by the White House and many other Western governments.
