Trump says he "would've been honored" to serve in Vietnam War
Source: CBS News
JUNE 5, 2019 / 9:44 AM / CBS NEWS London -- President Trump has said he "would not have minded" at all serving in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. Mr. Trump avoided the U.S. military draft in place during the war by getting a medical deferment for bone spurs. Before attending commemoration ceremonies in England and France marking the 75th anniversary of the World War II D-Day invasion by Allied forces, Mr. Trump was asked by British broadcaster Piers Morgan whether he wished he could have served in the Vietnam War. The president told Morgan he was "never a fan" of the war, calling Vietnam a country that "nobody had ever heard of" in 1960s America before the conflict began. But he said he would have been happy and honored to have served. Those excuses included not being a “fan” of the war, the claim that “at that time, nobody ever heard of the country,” pointing out that the North Vietnamese were not “Nazi Germany,” and that he had not moved to Canada to avoid the draft. Former CNN personality Piers Morgan interviewed Trump during the current UK trip, and brought up the subject of the anniversary of D-Day. “What kind of debt do you think we owe the people that fought on the beaches of Normandy?” Morgan asked. more https://www.mediaite.com/news/trump-offers-flurry-of-excuses-for-dodging-vietnam-claims-i-would-not-have-minded-serving/

1. The "bone spurs" thing is simply laying the groundwork for an attack on Biden
Just so you know.
Don't be surprised when you get called out as a hypocrite over Biden's curiously-disappearing asthma, absent from his memoirs of an active youth, but present for one of his five deferments. People did stuff to avoid going to Vietnam, and it hardly is a partisan line. |

He went on to say in that interview that he hopes he's made up for not serving by being the greatest president for veterans and the military. Such horseshit and he probably believes it. This fucker has done nothing for military families or veterans other than cause harm...NOTHING!

18. What has tRump done for the military?
The only thing I can come up with is his "tapping not only $1 billion already transferred from military pay and pension accounts, but also money from an emergency military construction fund that the administration said it intends to transfer but has not yet moved."*
How does this set of actions help the military? ![]() * from a Washington Post article dated June 3rd. |

of course, this was a lie. If anything, he's been taking money away from other allocated military uses and using it for his stupid wall.

8. Draft-dodging is only an issue if you later support other wars...
If Trump was consistently anti-war, I would applaud his draft-dodging. However, saying he would have been "honored" to serve in Vietnam after dodging the draft is a lie.
As for Biden, he will probably chest-thump with the best of them, which will turn me off. That said, childhood asthma does in fact often disappear. My kid is only 5 and has asthma, but he can still run and play like any other kid. He only rarely has trouble breathing even when playing outside in the hot Florida weather. |

23. No Honor in Vietnam
The point about Vietnam that needs to be in the headlines is that it was a great mistake. My brother in law died there for a lie in 1967. As one who lost a lot, I say the important issue here is to not send our children abroad for any wars of choice.

Claim the opposite of the real truth. He's a coward is why he used his privilege to dodge the draft, and even more of one now stating this. He's not for America, first or anything else, and his actions to destroy OUR Democracy , the truth, and the rule of law is proof he's a fraud and against this country. Its also why he sides with corrupt criminal murdering dictators that even kill their own, because he's one of them.

30. president Bonespurs...I don't want to hear your excuses (all lies)...the fact remains that you ...
were and are a coward and you need to apologize to every single veteran and especially John McCain...who did serve and also was a prisoner. Even though a republican, he's still served honorably and deserves our respect. Respect that you certainly don't deserve one bit.
I remember sitting around the TV watching the lottery drawings for the draft, it was scary. Some of my neighborhood childhood friends ended up serving. Where were you when all of the students were protesting the war (riots even broke out)? There should be pictures of you along w/ the rest of the protestors. Instead, you were screwing around literally, screwing the pooch and worse, and as you say, avoiding a STD...pathetic if you ask me. |

33. Bullshit. Bone spurs are not a condition that can't be treated.
If he had wanted to serve, he could have received treatment and then enlisted. I don't fault anyone for not wanting to go to Vietnam - UNLESS decades later, they go into full dictator, "I'm a bad ass tough guy" mode. You don't get to play general if you didn't participate when asked. To add insult to injury, he gleefully declared his Vietnam to be his war against STDs. Apparently he lost because he's like an end stage syphilis patient.
