Trump: U.S., Mexico Reach Deal To Avoid New Tariffs

Source: NPR

The U.S. and Mexico have "reached a signed agreement" that would avert the tariffs that were scheduled to begin on Monday, President Trump said on Friday evening.

As part of the deal, Mexican officials "agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration," Trump tweeted.

"There is not much support in my conference for tariffs," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters after White House lawyers met with GOP senators ...

Lawmakers have warned the tariffs could hurt U.S. businesses and force U.S. consumers to pay more for products imported from Mexico.

of substance according to the article above:

"Under a joint agreement released by State Department officials, Mexico will assist the United States in curbing migration across the border by deploying its national guard troops through the country, especially at the border. The agreement also says Mexican authorities will work to dismantle human smuggling operations.

"For its part, the U.S. promises that asylum applicants will be "rapidly returned" to Mexico as they await the result of their claims. Mexico agrees to accept them and offer jobs, health care and education."

We'll see.

simply because he loathes immigrants, and wants to show his rabidly nativist and racist base he's one of them. No one wants to acknowledge why so many Central American and Mexican immigrants have been fleeing north for decades, seeking asylum. As the British immigrant rights refrain goes, “We are here because you were there.”

Since 1954 the U.S. has intervened 56 times in Central America (numbers vary depending on source), usually to depose leaders we disapproved of, and back those who would do our bidding. American military, money and arms flooded into Central America, rightwing death squads were organized and US-backed dictators employed all manner of terror, torture and murder to silence and control their own people. American corporate interests were usually behind these aggressions.

These interventions have created social chaos and havoc, devastating the region's economies, and displacing generations of Guatemalans, Salvadoreans, Nicaraguans, Hondurans and others. This long, bloody history might explain why migrant men, women and children are walking north, trying to escape the horrors of decades of failed American foreign and corporate policy. So, now Trump holds another gun to Mexico's head, threatening to ruin their economy if they don't do something to prevent our blowback.

He tweeted that "this is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States." So if this agreement does what he says it does, then there goes his rationale for the wall.

And illegitimate businessman. There is no deal, just more bs from a pathetic serial liar, and carrer con man, and corrupt criminal. If you believe this deal I have a real good deal for you on a bridge for sale. He knew Republicans were going to stop him is why he had to do this claiming he was successful, again not the truth.
