House Intel Announces Open Hearing On Counter Intel Aspects Of Mueller Report

The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday morning, is titled “Lessons from the Mueller Report: Counterintelligence Implications of Volume 1.”

The committee has not announced specific witnesses yet, but said in a press release that, over the course of a series of hearings, it will hear from “fact witnesses, national security experts, and others connected to the Special Counsel’s investigation to elucidate the issues and findings in the first volume of the report.”

The committee previously held a public hearing on Russia’s use of oligarchs and money to influence politics, but that hearing occurred before the public Mueller report was released.

“Since the release of the Mueller report, the American public has learned much about the President’s conduct, his campaign’s interactions with Russia and that nation’s interference in our election and affairs,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) said. “The evidence has been both criminal and non-criminal, and implicated deep counterintelligence concerns over the potential compromise of U.S. persons. Our Committee’s goal will be to explain to the American people the serious counterintelligence concerns raised by the Mueller Report, examine the depth and breadth of the unethical and unpatriotic conduct it describes, and produce prescriptive remedies to ensure that this never happens again.”

1. This is a good move.

The Mueller Report was a criminal report. Congress has an oversight responsibility for the overall conduct of the occupant in the White House. For instance: Trump was in negotiations for building a Trump Tower in Moscow in the Summer of 2016 while he was running for president. He hid this from the American people for obvious reasons not just while he was running for office but after he became president. Evedentally, this is not against the law, but it made him susceptible to compromise or blackmail. This was a blatant disregard for national security.

And these agencies (I think there's 17 of them) are largely staffed with men and women who served the nation in uniform, cleared all manner of security checks, and carry the responsibility to be on the lookout for America. The republican Party has chosen to DO NOTHING to protect and defend the USA. In fact, through the agency of Dirty Donny, their morally corrupt republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief, the republicans have dismantled what feeble defenses we already had in place.

The GOP is inviting more more more mass, wholesale ATTACKS and ACTS OF WAR perpetrated against these United States. This hearing should make those ugly facts plain to everyone.

6. Finally. Some attention paid to Volume 1.

I was worried that the revelations would get lost in the reductionist, absurd message of "Trump wasn't charged with committing a crime, therefore he is innocent".

The first part of Volume 1 -- about the Russian companies formed to affect the vote, coordination between Wikileaks and the companies, and hacking of the DNC -- would make a good movie.
