Trump: New China tariffs will take effect immediately if Xi skips G-20

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 06/10/19 10:12 AM EDT

President Trump on Monday threatened to immediately impose tariffs on $300 billion in Chinese goods if Chinese President Xi Jinping does not appear at this month’s Group of 20 (G-20) summit.

Asked during a CNBC interview if the new tariffs would take effect if Xi does not attend the gathering of world leaders in Osaka, Japan, Trump responded, “Yes, it would.” Trump said he would be “surprised” if Xi did not attend because the two leaders are expected to meet to discuss the U.S.-China trade dispute.

“He’s actually an incredible guy. He’s a great man. He’s very strong and very smart, but he’s for China and I’m for the United States,” the president said during a phone interview with the cable business news channel.

Trump has threatened to slap tariffs on an additional $300 billion in Chinese imports if the two countries do not reach a deal soon to end their long-running trade dispute.

And using tariffs as a self promotion to use or else he'll keep threatening them with higher tariffs. A position he will easily lose on , but he'll then claim he won , and is the greatest again, falsely. His tariff policies are losing billions for farmers and the American people, and he really doesn't care, but companies are realizing he's hurting them all by doing this to the country. His phony claims will be exposed on it all, and show he's a fraud. trump's losing these tariff fights, and he knows it , and is why he has to claim the opposite. He hates having the truth expose him, and why he claims fake news to his rubes that still believe this serial liar, and con man.

Donald Trump made this statement because he figures President Xi Jinping will appear at the G-20. What has President Xi done to indicate that he will not appear at the G-20? Trump is just trying to get another cheap win. President Xi will show up at the G-20 and then Trump will claim that President Xi would not have attended if he had not threatened to impose tariffs. I would not be surprised if Trump went as far as to say that President Xi never attended the G-20 during President Obama's time in office.
