Rep. King insists he's not racist

(CNN)Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican who was stripped of his congressional committee assignments earlier this year, was not allowed to fly aboard Air Force One on Tuesday as President Donald Trump traveled to Iowa, two GOP officials say.

King, who represents the state's 4th District in Western Iowa, asked the White House to join the President's entourage, but administration officials rejected the request, two officials familiar with the matter told CNN.

Republican Sens. Joni Ernst of Iowa and Deb Fischer of Nebraska joined Trump aboard Air Force One. Ernst had not been planning to travel with the President, citing her voting schedule, but ended up flying to Iowa with Trump.

CNN has reached out to King's office for comment.

While King has a history of making incendiary remarks around race and immigration, King was removed from his committee assignments and rebuked by members of his own party after giving an interview with The New York Times in January in which he made racist comments. In the article, King, as part of a defense of what he said was the "culture of America," asked how certain terms had become controversial in modern discourse.

Freaking hilarious.

As for Ernst, she is a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries. So she and Trump are fellow employees of Koch.

Goddamned racist King is so stinky even Republicans think he smells.

It was probably made by a WH staffer who realized the optics would be bad.

Trump probably wasn't even aware of it until he was hate-watching CNN.

his racism to be upstaged. It would ruin his image if someone was there to say more hateful things than him.

I doubt he's doing anything to help the farmers there, or for anyone since he has no power in congress.

t's no secret that rural Iowa has suffered through decades of population loss. But newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau underscore the stark reality facing much of the state.

Those figures show that two-thirds of Iowa counties lost population between 2010 and 2017: 71 counties lost residents, while 28 saw gains.

This map shows the distribution of the population change across all 99 counties:

(Ed.- Can't link to the interactive map here, but it's worth clicking through, particularly when compared to IA-4).

some voting changes may be coming...

King has bad timing with the racist remarks now..he needs to wait till after the election.
And with any luck, those types of comments won't be popular with a democrat prez...
