Illinois governor to sign Reproductive Health Act

Source: KCRG

llinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Wednesday is expected to sign into law the Reproductive Health Act, which he said would make his state the most progressive on the issue.

The measure, which lawmakers said codifies existing practices, removes restrictions on abortions later in one's pregnancy and any criminal penalties for physicians who perform them, according to ABC Chicago station WLS. The new law also repeals Illinois' partial birth ban and the state's 1975 abortion act, in addition to expanding insurance coverage for procedures and for contraception.

States including Alabama recently have done the exact opposite, passing draconian laws to restrict abortion, primarily in an effort to get the issue before the Supreme Court and potentially overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that legalized the procedure at the federal level.

We are the butt of every Conservative joke. Cons have been predicting a state-wide meltdown like that of Detroit because of our liberalism. Downstate Cons have been threatening to secede from the state to get away from Chicago (ignoring that Chicago is what generates all of Illinois' revenue). Cons joke that Chicago is the gun murder capital of America (its not), and that there is a raging violence problem (half-true). To say nothing of the state's debt woes and 30+ years of Republican and Democratic screw-ups with our pensions.

My point is, Cons already hate Illinois for a variety of reasons to hate Illinois and treat us like trash. This bill will do nothing to change that.

in some of the downstate papers. They really do hate JB.

They are outnumbered here, so let them squeal. I hope that soon we have something similar on the federal level, and the repiggies in congress will be able to do nothing but squeal.

Our state will be going places. The cons will be going straight to hell.

She might forget where she is and try to perform some below the belt surgery on them like she did growing up on the farm.

As we here in Iowa know.
