Trump hails Michael Flynn as "war hero" ahead of sentencing

Source: CBS News

As Michael Flynn continues to await sentencing for lying to federal investigators about his contacts with Russian officials, President Trump is hailing his former national security adviser as a "war hero." The president tweeted about the embattled former Army lieutenant general early Thursday, saying he had "served with distinction."

The president also bid the ex-administration official good luck as he's retained a new lawyer in his case. Flynn has hired frequent conservative pundit Sidney Powell as his new counsel as he awaits his sentencing hearing. Powell, a former Texas prosecutor, is an outspoken critic of Robert Mueller's Russia probe and the Department of Justice, most recently writing a book in which she criticizes the DOJ for its alleged use of "illegal and unethical tactics."

Powell has also criticized Mueller's comments on possible obstruction claims, telling the Epoch Times last month that the mere suggestion of the DOJ bringing obstruction of justice charges against Mr. Trump was "absurd," and called Mueller's character as a prosecutor into question.

"I was taught that if you don't have a solid case, don't turn somebody's life upside down, literally ruin their lives and that of their families just because you want to try to notch your belt with somebody's scalp or get your name in the newspaper...unless they really committed a crime and you're sure they did it and they're the right person, don't bring charges against somebody," Powell said.

Involved in committing federal crimes against America, then claims he wants to make America great again. Remember even after he knew Flynn was dirty he did nothing for weeks getting rid of him, and it was only when it became public, and they pressed him that he had him fired. He knew what Flynn was doing all along.

3. Benedict Arnold was also a war hero. Then he was a traitor.

..."He joined the growing army outside Boston and distinguished himself through acts of intelligence and bravery. His actions included the Capture of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775, defensive and delaying tactics at the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain in 1776 which allowed American forces time to prepare New York's defenses, the Battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut (after which he was promoted to major general), operations in relief of the Siege of Fort Stanwix, and key actions during the pivotal Battles of Saratoga in 1777, in which he suffered leg injuries that halted his combat career for several years.

Arnold repeatedly claimed that he was passed over for promotion by the Continental Congress, while other officers obtained credit for some of his accomplishments.[4] Others in his military and political circles brought charges against him of corruption or other malfeasance, but most often he was acquitted in formal inquiries. Congress investigated his accounts, however, and concluded that he was indebted to Congress, and he borrowed heavily to maintain a lavish lifestyle.

Arnold mingled with Loyalist sympathizers in Philadelphia and married into one such family by marrying Peggy Shippen. She was a close friend of British Major John André and kept in contact with him when he became head of the British espionage system in New York. Many historians point to her as facilitating Arnold's plans to switch sides; he opened secret negotiations with André, and Peggy relayed the messages. The British promised £20,000 for the capture of West Point, a major American stronghold; Washington greatly admired Arnold and gave him command of that fort in July 1780. His scheme was to surrender the fort to the British, but it was exposed in September 1780 when Patriot militia captured André carrying papers which revealed the plot. Arnold escaped and André was hanged.

Arnold received a commission as a brigadier general in the British Army, an annual pension of £360, and a lump sum of over £6,000.[5] He led British forces on raids in Virginia, and they burned much of New London, Connecticut, to the ground and slaughtered surrendering forces after the Battle of Groton Heights—just a few miles downriver from the town where he had grown up. In the winter of 1782, he and Peggy moved to London, England. He was well received by King George III and the Tories but frowned upon by the Whigs and most Army officers. In 1787, he moved to Canada to a merchant business with his sons Richard and Henry. He was extremely unpopular there and returned to London permanently in 1791.".... (more)

5. 'War hero' who fell deeply under the spell of the Cult Of Trump apparently...

The strange flipping of a respected three star general:

"Flynn has traced his leap into partisan politics to his first meeting with Trump, in 2015. A 30-minute appointment turned into an hour and a half, and, as Flynn told The Washington Post in 2016, "I got the impression this was not a guy who was worried about Donald Trump, but a guy worried about the country."

"I was sold," Flynn said in a later speech. "From that moment on, my direction in life completely changed."

(Boy, THAT'S an understatement!)

Flynn. The new 'lawyer''s specialty is plugging anti-Mueller conspiracy fables to the gullible on Faux News. Now Trump is making sure that the faithful know that Flynn is a "war hero" which, in their hagiography sits Flynn at the right hand of God (Trump). They have 90 days (the continuance of the sentencing hearing requested by Powell) to pollute the airways with all the reasons why Flynn should never have been charged in the first place. Then, Trump acts in a 'humanitarian' fashion and pardons Flynn. And then, as the British like to say, "Bob's your uncle" (i.e. it's all over).

he was, however, indicted and found guilty of federal crimes. In Trump's book that makes him a hero.

And there's still 40% of the American people who think Trump is a rational, respected, effective president.

He flushed it down the toilet when he conspired with foreigners to meddle in the 2016 election. He belongs in the shameful gallery of traitors with Benedict Arnold.
