Federal watchdog agency recommends removal of Kellyanne Conway from federal office
Source: Washington Post
The Office of Special Counsel has recommended the removal of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway from federal office for violating the Hatch Act, which bars federal employees from engaging in political activity in the course of their work.
The report submitted to President Trump found that Conway violated the Hatch Act on numerous occasions by "disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media." The counsel said Conway was a repeat offender and recommended that she be removed from federal office.
The Office of Special Counsel is charged with enforcing the Hatch Act and is not to be confused with now-former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation. The office is run by Henry Kerner, whom Trump nominated to the post.
The White House responded by arguing that the special counsel's actions against Conway "are deeply flawed and violate her constitutional rights to free speech and due process." "Others, of all political views, have objected to the OSC's unclear and unevenly applied rules which have a chilling effect on free speech for all federal employees," deputy White House press secretary Steven Groves said in a statement. "Its decisions seem to be influenced by media pressure and liberal organizations, and perhaps OSC should be mindful of its own mandate to act in a fair, impartial, nonpolitical manner, and not misinterpret or weaponize the Hatch Act."

(1,156 posts)This (mal)administration is more corrupt than Tammany Hall's Boss Tweed, Warren Harding's Teapot Dome, Nixon's Watergate, Reagan's Iran Contra or GWB's Iraq war combined. The stain this fool will leave will forever damage the United States than we can imagine until he is forcibly removed from office.

(12,448 posts)Nobody is calling for her to be arrested, which could violate her free speech rights. It's not what she said, it's that she said it as a Federal employee. They're recommending she be removed as an employee.
As for due process, she doesn't have a Constitutional right to be a White House employee. Nobody does. They can be fired for anything, or nothing.
I just get tired of people, specifically people in the White House who should know better, incorrectly throwing around terms like free speech and due process.

So the White House's reply is saying "yes, we are sending a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act's restrictions. Why, yes, we are trying to erode the principal foundation of our democratic system - the rule of law. It was fairly obvious already, wasn't it?"

. nothing will happen and we'll just move on to the next illegal and or unethical "scandal". Can we even call them scandals anymore? A more sinister interpretation of the WHs and GOPs actions (or inactions as the case may be) is they know the fix is in already for the upcoming 2020 elections and just don't care a bit what we as a Nation of Laws and standards think or say anymore.
As an aside, I wonder what her husband will have to say about this. Or not.

(11,885 posts)While working in her capacity in her official position she isn't allowed that option, period, and they know that. She ignored the law repeatedly with no regard for the law. The excuse given isn't applicable. She should be threatened with prosecution, or she'll liKe others in this administration will continue then do it even more.

(36,747 posts)The largest book advance of all will be for Kellyanne when she is done with Trump.
She sold herself for money and fame, first with Cruz totally against Trump, and then switched over for more money and fame when Trump looked more favorable in the campaigns.
Her loyalty is for sale.
Was/is it irony when Kellyanne prostituted herself for money for Cruz or when she prostitutes herself for money for Trump?

(7,475 posts)The question is not whether Conway was championing the agenda of the president who, its worth noting, actively supports Moore but whether she was advocating against Jones, Schaub explained. Only in a world of alternative facts could Conways televised words amount to anything other than advocacy against Jones. In short, the case against Conway is airtight; or it would be, that is, if President Trump hadnt appointed Kerner to lead the OSC.
