President Donald Trump slammed Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell again this week, insisting that Powells actions have prevented the economy from soaring even higher and declaring hes out of patience with the man he picked to lead the nations central bank.
His comments during an exclusive interview with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopolous were among his strongest yet aimed at the politically independent Federal Reserve. They add weight to concerns that the president could try to oust the head of the Federal Reserve, even if he isnt successful. Powell has said he wouldnt resign if asked by Trump.
Speaking with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Tuesday, Trump said that the market would be stronger "if we had a different person in the Federal Reserve who wouldnt have raised interest rates so much . . .
Trumps repeated public criticism of the Federal Reserve potentially puts the chairman in an uncomfortable position. If Powell eventually does what Trump wants -- even if he makes that decision independently without factoring in the presidents opinion the board could be perceived as biased or politically tainted.

(11,882 posts)Is probably behind the bully tactics keeping his loans payments lower because he's so deeply in debt. Plus he may want to drive the deficit higher to then claim bankruptcy and to stiff China.

(4,002 posts)The Fed has held it's ground so far. The question is; Why is he so adamant about running the Fed? What's his motivation?
You damn well know it's not for the betterment of the country. Nothing that this con man does is for any better good than his own.

(18,581 posts)All he knows is "keep cutting those interest rates" and the economy will soar. Soon we'd all go shopping with a bag full of dollars. Dump the bag out at the register and replace with groceries.
...I know that and I'm not nearly qualified for his job.

Rates are NOT too high. I think the Fed HAS, in the past, raised rates too high too fast. But i think this time its pretty much in the right place. People arent buying houses because they're too damn high priced. A 1/4 or 1/2 point wont make them that much more affordable.
