Shipping containers full of illegal drugs have been found and seized by federal authorities at a Philadelphia port, multiple law enforcement sources tell NBC10.

A senior law enforcement official said 15,000 kilos of cocaine has been seized from seven containers, which were found aboard a cargo ship, the MSC Gayane, that previously traveled from Chile, Panama and the Bahamas.

The bust occurred at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal Port on the Delaware River in South Philadelphia, multiple local, state and federal law enforcement sources have told NBC10.

The massive cache of drugs could have a street value between $350 million and $750 million at $25,000-50,000 per kilo, sources said.

Of the current price of cocaine? Law enforcement is notorious about overestimating the value of drugs it seizes. I did the math and that's about $500,000 per kill. Does that pass the smell test?

I do know date of mine got a g for $3US in a bar in Colombia about a year ago so estimated value would be far cheaper there..lol.

I've never used myself, but working in kitchens you pretty much can't avoid it...last people I was close enough with to talk prices were paying $50-60 a gram a few years ago; an 8ball is 1/8 ounce, 3.5 gram's - usually goes for 3x the gram price, small bulk savings. $50 a gram works out to 15500kg x 1000g/kg x $50/gm = $775,000,000.

Ship carrying $1 billion worth of cocaine in Philadelphia could have another 30 tons on board

Investigators in Philadelphia continue to search the cargo ship where they found more than 17 tons of cocaine Tuesday in what's being called one of the biggest drug busts in U.S. history. Officials told CBS News there could be 30 tons more on board.

What they've found so far amounts to more than 34,000 pounds of cocaine with a street value of over a billion dollars. Officials say seven containers on the cargo ship were carrying the drugs.

The ship's second mate and a crew member have been arrested and charged, admitting they helped load the cocaine onto the ship from more than dozen other boats while at sea.

The MSC Gayane had traveled from Chile to Peru, heading from Panama and the Bahamas before docking in Philadelphia. It was on its way to the Netherlands next.
