Russian President Vladimir Putin has returned President Trumps favor of downplaying Russian meddling by praising him as a talented person who won in 2016 because he was merely perceptive to changes in the U.S.
Mr. Trump is not a career politician, Putin told the Financial Times in an interview that published Thursday. I do not accept many of his methods when it comes to addressing problems. But do you know what I think? I think that he is a talented person. He knows very well what his voters expect from him.
According to the FT, Putin was studiously polite in his remarks about Trump and referred to the President as Donald throughout the interview.
Russia has been accused, and, strange as it may seem, it is still being accused
?of alleged interference in the US election, he said. What happened in reality? Mr. Trump looked into his opponents attitude to him and saw changes in American society, and he took advantage of this.
Trump is under fire back home for making light of special counsel Robert Muellers Russian election meddling findings abroad. During a sit-down with Putin on Friday, Trump jokingly warned Putin not to meddle in the 2020 election.

(43,044 posts)We pushed democracy in eastern Europe following World War II. We were the dominant force in the world. Foreign economies, the Soviets included, needed our cash for rebuilding.
Now we're 23 Trillion in debt, foreigners own our business party, and we surrender to foreign influence at every opportunity. We have no political will, we are standing down and abandoning our freedoms and principles.
In 1776 when the Founders inked the Declaration of Independence, some members regarded it as a "skiff made of paper". Rule of law is on paper. It's useless without faithful execution of the laws, with pick-and-choose enforcement, when the implementation of law is politicized.
We are in far deeper trouble than Americans realize. Twitter abounds with former government officials at many levels who assure us the Intelligence Community has our back, that Trump is going to prison. I'll believe it when it happens. They seem powerless to me.
Will we even have elections in 2020? Are there gatekeepers for what's left of our democracy?
