Stacey Abrams Will Not Run for President in 2020, Focusing Instead on Fighting Voter Suppression

Source: New York Times

Stacey Abrams, the Georgia politician who captured national attention during her unsuccessful run for governor in 2018, has decided not to run for president after publicly contemplating a bid for months, according to people familiar with her thinking.

Ms. Abrams, a Democrat, will instead focus her efforts on preventing voter suppression, including working with state parties in battleground states to more closely monitor voter protection ahead of next year’s general election.

The move comes after civil rights groups raised questions about voter suppression and election rigging in Ms. Abrams’ narrow loss to Brian Kemp, a Republican who was Georgia’s secretary of state. Mr. Kemp’s office closed several polling stations in predominantly black areas and stalled more than 50,000 voter applications in the run-up to the election.

Ms. Abrams is set to speak Tuesday afternoon at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Convention in Las Vegas. She is likely to remain atop any Democratic nominee’s vice-presidential wish list.

1. I like her VERY much!

And I think that her efforts to prevent voter suppression are an important service to this country.

Thank you, Ms. Abrams.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of you yet.

2. IOW, Stacey Adams is performing an important and very useful public service instead of stroking her

ego in a crowded field of Democrats, the vast majority of who have no chance to win the nomination.

5. smart

We need brilliant people in the trenches helping protect voters at polls and GOTV. I think she would compliment a Biden nomination ( not that she would be interested)

8. Any chance she will try to run against Perdue?

After all if we can unseat him thats one more seat towards a Democratic Senate majority.
