4,000 noncitizens estimated on Mich. voter rolls
By Chad Livengood
Detroit News Lansing Bureau
Lansing One day after being sued over a controversial ballot box citizenship question, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Tuesday there are an estimated 4,000 noncitizens on Michigan's voter rolls.
The estimate is based on the state's access to citizenship information for one-fifth of the population, Johnson said, adding the federal government won't give her access to more citizenship data.
Johnson said the results of a "very tedious" analysis of 58,000 driver's licenses and state-issued identification cards found 963 noncitizens registered to vote.
Department of State employees cross-referenced those noncitizens with voting records and found 54 have a voting history and have voted a total of 95 times, Johnson said.

I smell bullshit coming from a troubled Teabagger Secretary of State who is currently being sued by voting rights advocates.
Ruth Johnson is what happens when we fail to get out the vote.

(53,661 posts)Was a great disappointment when most of us voted for a 'reasonable and non-partisan' GOP for one of our state offices. Then Karl Rove got to him at last and he went crooked. Never allow a GOP to be in charge of elections again, not after this 2010 batch.

(7,006 posts)So, let's do the math shall we:
7,000,000 Michiganders/4,000 (Made Up Non-Citizens by Tea-Bagging Witch SOS Ruth Johnson that suppose to be voting) =1.75% of so called illegal citizens voting in Michigan....I smell B.S.

(31,947 posts)It is actually much lower than that. 4000/7000000 = .057%

(118,236 posts)4000 noncitizens on the rolls in Michigan? Really? What's in it for them?
We know why people rob banks: they want the money. If they get fugged up enough, some will take that risk for the prospect of the cash. A while back, a guy in my town with a substance problem robbed a bank for money for his fix: the really stupid thing was, everybody at that branch knew him by name, and he didn't bother with a disguise. I guess he got his fix; I know he got caught. He wanted the money bad and took stupid chance for it
But voting? Nah -- nobody says: "Damn! I really want to vote so awful bad, I don't mind getting deported for committing a felony!"
There might be statewide a handful of clueless non-citizens who registered cuz they thought everybody could vote, and in any election cycle maybe one or two of them vote. Maybe. But the huge majority of non-citizens will know they can't vote, and they won't even try -- because really! what's in it for them?

(26,315 posts)But yes, the vast majority won't bother to use that accidental registration to vote.

(320 posts)Sounds like the suspected 4,000 non-citizens on the CO voter rolls. Of which all but 36 were proven to be citizens (myself included).
Waste of taxpayer money!

(102,141 posts)corrupt asshole that he is. I surely hope our voting immigrant and minority populations will remember what the RETHUGS tried to do, for a very long time to come.

It may be over for the suppression, but as long as the SoS holds the key to the election, then we must make sure that Scott Gessler does his job as the state law provides, not what his Republican Party provides.

(57,936 posts)In California, when you offer to register someone to vote, the non-citizens either tell you that they cannot vote or turn away.
And voters must sign under penalty of perjury that they are citizens.
I don't believe that noncitizens register to vote.

(26,315 posts)Ironically, this repig's own office is probably responsible for the bulk of these registrations (if they exist).

(8,127 posts)lots of dead people especially..
so its kinda possible, i guess...
BUT guess what?
they NEVER show up to vote.
so, in my view, no real fraud has been commited...
i mean, weve all heard the stories of 'mickey mouse' and other obvious factious names being submitted to the registries..but again.. they never show up to vote...
now if they were being allowed to cast a vote, thats a different story all together... lmao

(31,947 posts)But it does exist in some areas. I lived in Chicago for 30 adult years and participated in attempts to put progressive candidates in office against the Daley machine. The dead did vote there through absentee voting. Family machine members would apply for an absentee vote for their dead relative and then vote the ballot and send it in. When we still had paper cards as the ballot machine members would visit polling places and put small ball bearings in the holes underneath where the opponent's name would go when the card was inserted so when you tried to punch out that name it would not go through and thus would not be counted.

(2,391 posts)Really?! Now pull the other one. What utter nonsense Michigan's SoS is spewing.
54 actual non-citizen voters. Call out the national guard, spends millions in passing laws that end up in court. Panic, and tell everyone that Obama is not really the President. It must be an ACORN plot.
What what really happened, a clerk at the drivers license office checked the box "Register to vote" and the individual got a voter's registration and thought, gee, I must be able to vote, they sent me this voter card.
Hey Ruth, how does 54 votes become 4,000?

(42,239 posts)Only those on the local electoral registers , which are done annually each October, are entitled to vote whether it be local or general elections. The forms are mailed out a few months before for return by mail or entered online. The register is also used to determine who is libel for jury service , those below 70 , and in some respects by credit agencies to confirm home address.
Aside from that we still use pencils and pieces of paper for voting,
