Release of Trump-Putin Calls Needs Mutual Consent, Russia Says

Source: Bloomberg

The Kremlin said Russia would have to give consent before transcripts of presidential phone calls between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin could be published, after Democrats indicated that they would seek the records as part of an impeachment inquiry.

“It’s possible only by mutual agreement of the parties,” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on a conference call Monday. “In general, diplomatic practice doesn’t provide for such publications. If there are any signals from the Americans, then we’ll discuss it.”

12. Putin is thinking:

"Трамп стоял на коленях передо мной".

"Trump was on his knees in front of me."

That's what his expression says in that photo.

11. Actually, no they don't.

That is what Putin would like, but there's nothing in our laws that would require it. Transcript of discussions by our President are a matter of public historical record. Now whether they can be subpoenaed successfully is another matter, one which would probably involve the Supreme Court, but Putin would have no input into that.

16. Putin has probably had his way already

Installed a US president who has started stacking the supreme court. I would think that Putin has a say on who appears on the nomination short lists, and as with the modern impeachment proceedings, the court gets ultimate say on what evidence the white house must fork over. Hell, that court appointed a president before the votes were legally counted with the justification that W. Bush would suffer irreparable damages, as if Gore didn't have the exact same stakes.

I hear you though, brother - Putin should not legally have any input. Not disagreeing one bit.

21. My, Putin certainly seems to be afraid of those coming out.

I wonder if there's something on them? Oh...like him colluding/ordering Trump to take actions to the benefit of Russia over the U.S....

Maybe he's afraid what's in those calls would move the United States to definitively, and unequivocally, designate Russia as an enemy state.

He’s done a huge amount of damage already. I think more and more people across the globe will be watching Trump unravel and realize when his back is to the wall he’ll sell out anyone, even Vlad, if he thinks it will help him.

45. The Donald is a two-bit mob thug compared to Putin, who is the real deal. Trump can't walk away...

...from this deal unless he wants a little polonium in his next hamberder -- or maybe some Novichuk in his children's apartments.

As for Putin, he's gotten good value on his investment, don't you think? America's reputation in tatters, old alliances broken, our word as a nation worthless, every lousy white nationalist empowered to come out from under their rocks -- the damage done to us by Trump's presidency is incalculable.

... "Diplomatic practice" is whatever you want it to be at the time, and it is hysterical that Mr Putin, of all people, would invoke it about Mr Trump, of all people.
