EXCLUSIVE: OFFICIAL WHO HEARD CALL SAYS TRUMP GOT 'ROLLED' BY TURKEY AND 'HAS NO SPINE'
Source: Newsweek

Donald Trump got "rolled" by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a National Security Council source with direct knowledge of the discussions told Newsweek.
In a scheduled phone call on Sunday afternoon between President Trump and President Erdogan, Trump said he would withdraw U.S. forces from northern Syria. The phone call was scheduled after Turkey announced it was planning to invade Syria, and hours after Erdogan reinforced his army units at the Syrian-Turkish border and issued his strongest threat to launch a military incursion, according to the National Security Council official to whom Newsweek spoke on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. withdrawal plays into the hands of the Islamic State group, Damascus and Moscow, and the announcement left Trump's own Defense Department "completely stunned," said Pentagon officials. Turkey, like the United States, wants regime change in Syria. Russia and Iran support the Assad regime.
"President Trump was definitely out-negotiated and only endorsed the troop withdraw to make it look like we are getting somethingbut we are not getting something," the National Security Council source told Newsweek. "The U.S. national security has entered a state of increased danger for decades to come because the president has no spine and that's the bottom line."

(12,712 posts)I still strongly expect this to be about more than being spineless or weak.
They are not as compelling as Russia's interests and Trump's business interests, which I think are the real priorities from here on in.

(586 posts)that he ran for president to make himself more money! If he hadn't won, it would have elevated his stature which would have increased the value of his properties & if he won, I'm sure he thought he could change the laws which would have benefited him also. The republican's tax plan did mostly benefit people of his financial status.

(123 posts)Got rolled.... Shocking. He equates action of any kind with "look I'm getting things done". Meanwhile real leaders see a mark...a stone cold sucker ripe for the picking. What a clown. He has no clue what he just did.

(586 posts)yesterday on The View, Meghan McCain was really mad about this, as she should be! She said any republican who criticized Obama's decisions in the middle east have no right to say anything else if they don't fight against this!!
it's not too surprising that he has no clue about this. International issues can be complicated & he seems to have difficulty understanding simple things! The only things he seems to believe are conspiracy theories!

Too afraid to speak up, too afraid of losing the power of the WH even when everything he does is a total disaster. How compromised are they? Time to get rid of the entire gop, and clean house. They are USELESS. Backing a mentally unbalanced moron is not a winning strategy.

(6,178 posts)He won't fire anyone face to face. He tweets You're fired or sends someone else to do it. He only dares to do it on a TV (Un)reality show that is scripted ahead of time. The make-believe bully has no cojones.
If he didn't have secret service protection or private bodyguards he would have been a whimpering coward and would have long ago gotten an attitude adjustment starting on the schoolyard playground.

he seems to do that a lot. This isn't the first time he has 'negotiated' a great deal where we got nothing in return!! But we are supposed to believe he's this great negotiator where he could make deals that no one else could have done!
