U.S. Forces Leave 'High-Value' ISIS Detainees Behind in Retreat From Syria

Source: New York Times

The American military was unable to transfer about five dozen “high value” Islamic State detainees out of Kurdish-run wartime prisons before the Pentagon decided to move its forces out of northern Syria and pave the way for a Turkish-led invasion, according to two American officials.

In the same area on Sunday, hundreds of Islamic State sympathizers escaped from a low-security detention camp in the region, taking advantage of the chaos caused by the Turkish ground invasion and the accompanying strikes.

Both developments underscored the pandemonium unleashed by President Trump’s sudden decision to order American troops to evacuate part of the Syrian region bordering Turkey.

That allowed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey to order an invasion of Syrian territory controlled by a Kurdish-led militia that was at the center of American-led efforts to contain the Islamic State over the past several years.

And the commitment of 1,500 to Saudi Arabia almost simultaneously?? Obviously not in the interest of our military personnel. I hope someone blows the whistle on this tragic abandonment of allies while committing troops to a disgusting, brutal regime unworthy of ANY support. What happened? I smell Jared.

US seizes only two British Isis prisoners in Syria, leaving others

Despite earlier briefings that 40 were taken, only ‘Beatles’ duo said to be under US control

US forces in north-east Syria were able to seize only two British Islamic State prisoners, leaving behind a cluster of others despite previous briefings that about 40 had been forcibly taken from Kurdish custody.

Kurdish military guarding the prisoners – supposedly among the most dangerous of several thousand Isis fighters in the region – refused to allow US special forces to take individuals other than Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh.

The duo are members of the “Beatles” cell, a group of Britons accused of being behind the torture and beheading of some British and US hostages, incidents that were apparently filmed and broadcast on social media.

Initial briefings suggested the US had taken around 40 prisoners to Iraq, but officials told the New York Times overnight that only Kotey and Elsheikh had been seized because the plan had at least partially backfired. British officials indicated on Monday that they believed only the two men were under US control.

There is no retreat. The military is following orders to abandon an ally, an order issued by a criminal.
