Vice President Mike Pence refuses to turn over documents, defying a House request

Last edited Tue Oct 15, 2019, 07:07 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: New York Times

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday said he would not comply with a wide-ranging request for documents from House impeachment investigators trying to better understand any role he may have played in the president’s attempts to pressure Ukraine to political investigations.

In a sternly worded response to an unusual request for documents, Matthew E. Morgan, the counsel to the vice president, accused the committees of requesting material that is “clearly not vice-presidential records” and blasted the investigation enterprise as a “self-proclaimed ‘impeachment inquiry’ ” that was ultimately illegitimate.

The House investigators had asked for documents to be produced by Oct. 15.

The tone of the two-page letter matched that of one sent last week by Pat A. Cipollone, the White House counsel, who made it clear the White House would not cooperate with the House impeachment inquiry, and instead intended to go to war against the probe.

Trump's fuckheads seem to be defying the impeachment inquiry at every turn and with complete impunity. I am not a person of faith, so I have no interest in relying on hypothetical guarantees that the Speaker has everything under control.

If I defied a subpoena from the district magistrate, I'd be jailed. When are we going to see these fuckers locked up?

If the court rules they must comply with subpoena, then they have to comply. If not, the federal judge can order the US Marshalls to arrest the person defying the subpoena.

for articles of impeachment against the Vice President. Pelosi is giving them enough rope to hang themselves and they are proving to be experts at tying the hangman's knot in the noose.

At this rate, we're giving them enough rope to hang around until after the 2020 elections, when the GOP can dubiously retake the House and put an end to all of this inconvenient impeachment stuff.

DU at large has apparently decided that Thou Shalt Not Question The Speaker, especially not (as I've been explicitly told in this very forum) if you're a white male.

Nevertheless, we didn't elect The Blue Wave with the hope of once again keeping our powder dry, yet here we are.

Trouble is this is the first time in USA history that 2/3 of the senate should be charged with illegal activity. Going to be very interesting!
