Pawlenty to become top banking lobbyist
Source: Minnesota Public Radio
WASHINGTON - Former governor Tim Pawlenty has been named the head of the Financial Services Roundtable, one of the top banking lobbying firms in Washington which represents the nation's top 100 financial institutions.
The announcement comes a little over a year after Pawlenty dropped out of the Republican presidential contest. Since then, Pawlenty has served as a surrogate for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign and was a shortlist contender for the Republican vice-presidential nominee. Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan was chosen instead.
Unlike many heads of Washington trade associations, Pawlenty has neither served in Congress, nor does he have much private sector experience. He was governor of Minnesota from 2003 to 2011.
Pawlenty's hiring comes as the banking industry continues to grapple with implementing the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial overhaul which was prompted by the 2008 financial crisis. The FSR helped lead the industry's opposition to many provisions in the legislation.

(17,077 posts)That's how the headline reads at my local paper's website.
The Financial Services Roundtable announced Thursday that Pawlenty will become its new president and chief executive officer on November 1.
Pawlenty was an early entrant in the Republican presidential campaign, but he ended his bid last year amid poor polling before the primaries began. He was often mentioned as a potential running mate for Romney and has campaigned across the country for the nominee.
The Financial Services Roundtable said in a press release that Pawlenty was stepping down from the campaign because the group is a bipartisan organization.

So Romney's national campaign co-chair is jumping ship with six weeks to go?

(25,169 posts)Does he have banking or financial experience of any kind or is he just a name and face that opens doors? He never stuck me as being a lobbying type. He is too milquetoast. Doesn't impress. I can't believe he would land such a job.
